Really good point. There's a big difference in checking HN in the 10 minutes between meetings vs spending 4 hours after noon reading and replying to threads.

Some people consider themselves to be "working" while browsing HN or reddit while they are "on the clock". That is being lazy while working.

I know your being sarcastic, but the first time that ad aired, everyone loved it. Yes it got played out just like the Bud Wise Er frogs, or the Real Men Of Genius, but the first couple were hilarious.

I don't work in marketing. My exposure to ads/commercials is generally only during live sports. The Superbowl used to be not only the ultimate NFL event but also the "super bowl" of commercials. They used to make you l

We can! But should we? Being fat is similar to being a drug user. At first, you actually are fat and happy. Over time, being fat will absolutely reduce your happiness from the medical, societal, and physical issues that arise. Similar t

Yes. In an industry where PHI and PII must be protected at all costs, sometimes it makes more sense to build a desktop app. That isn’t to say we only build desktop apps, far from it. But the skill set is needed.

It 100% depends on the manager and how they use these meetings. I use them to catch up with the team. To give them undivided attention. And primarily to allow them to vent in a closed setting. When neither of us has much to say, we end them

Long ago, I read that OBLs main goal was to drive the US to destruction not by the 9/11 attack, but by the cost of the retaliation. Unfortunately, even though OBL is dead, he won the war.

> I'm not sure that Amazon is winning in the long run with this strategy Completely agreed. Anecodotally, I used to shop on Amazon for things. As in, use the search function to find items to buy. These days, that is impossible.

I hate to imagine what kind of actual societal progress we could have made had these brilliant minds been working on nearly anything else. So much wasted potential just to serve an ad that gets ignored a tiny bit faster.

It used to e worth subscribing for a month to catch up. After continued price increases, I’ll just start pirating Netflix shows. And the cycle completes.

In addition to what others have said, the biggest issue is that RTOers want to force their will upon WFHers because they don’t want to work in an empty office. I get it, social people want to be social, but forcing us WFHers into your parad

I noticed the exact same thing. In the midst of the protests, it felt like reddit turned on the "AI comment bots" and then just let them run. I rarely saw insightful comments or comments that aren't just repeated/repos

I agree that having a choice is absolutely important. I want to have a choice of a closed ecosystem, like Apple. Can we not have the option between open (Android) and closed (Apple)?

Exactly. I prefer Amazon Basics to YAYWOWND brand every day. It is one of the few brands on Amazon you can count on to not be Chinese crap. Even if it is made in China, the Amazon Basics products are generally good quality.

I would argue that Unity is about 10x the size it needs to be. They could shed a significant portion of their employees and still produce a good product. They are in the perpetual growth trap that so many of these companies fall into when t

Fextralife is worse than fandom, by far. The forced twitch view botting along with the horrendous site layout make it one of the worst wiki sites that exist.

I would recommend reading more on this topic. The price change is but one of many factors leading to the outrage. No one, anywhere, on any thread, is against Unity charging more. Many of us are already paying Unity a significant sum.
