I wonder how you prove/disprove this. I imagine if you had a control box with water exposed to the air that wasn't "radiating heat," then that should show if the solar freezer was indeed working or not.

This reminds me of the one time I microwaved a Pop-Tart at school. I was grade 4 and young me thought that a Pop-Tart on 30 seconds taste great, a Pop-Tart on 3 minutes would taste amazing! When I opened up the door I could see a small volc

Flipper Zero is one of those things that I would love to try, but I can't justify the price when I know I'll get minimal usage out of it before it just sits on the shelf. I still love seeing what everyone does with them though.

DidYouKnowGaming did a great video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDcrM706gws My favourite part is where they used specialty software to recreate the button presses on the video with frame-perfect precision, and f

The thing I find interesting is the fact that Funimation (Sony) bought Crunchyroll [0], but decided to keep Crunchyroll as the main product instead. I guess Crunchyroll had better name recognition? --- [0] - https://www.polygon.c

This is great. I love using DuckDB to do initial analytics on new datasets we get at work. The issue I run into a lot is that our sources can give us data that has non UTF-8 characters in it which DuckDB won't read so I spend a bit of

My friend was trying to make a platform that would generate an App and Website for customers. He was doing the web work and his partner was doing the iOS work. One time talking to him I spoke about an Android app I had to make for my univer

The video was great. I think my favourite part is where he dumps the Chinese knock off version and finds the random ARM code and reverse engineers it. So much cool stuff in there.

This is pretty crazy. It's always interesting to see just how tech can fail and expose private information in ways that no one really expected. Edit: I wonder if this is already patched? I tried looking in my neighbourhood and there ar

I know everyone is adding their favourite songs with the omnichord but Barnaby Dixon did a song with one too [0], you even get a brief look at the insides as he has to fix a solder joint. If you would prefer to skip the skit at the beginnin

While this isn't strictly landing a job, it was Minecraft that got me into Linux (so I could host my own instances on a VPS), and then from there I got into a small home server and stuff I learned from all that helped in my work. The h

Has anyone had any experience using this in a shared workspace? I think it would be awesome to learn, but I don't see it working well for me in an open plan working area.

I found this Sci-Fi LARP that was done in Finland a few years ago where they created a space ship that players would then spend 48 hours in. This is a talk a couple of the organizers gave about the technical details behind the scenes.

I am a huge fan of solo TTRPG's. A few of my personal favourites are Colostle[1] and Thousand Year-Old Vampire. Rather than a map-making game like Delve, they are journaling games where you get a vague event (you are ambushed by someon

This was one thing that surprised me when playing the remastered version of Halo. It looked exactly as I remembered it. Then I swapped to the original graphics and realized my nostalgia and memories had added lots of extra details.

I've actually used embeddings at work. I was pretty excited as it was the first of this new AI tech (embeddings, chatGPT, etc) that I used for more than just a query engine. We offer courses at work and needed a way to see how we compa

That's a good idea, that would save me starting from scratch. We do use a fair bit of vendor-specific language, would be cool to make a good Oracle version and then commit back to the project.

Focusing on the Tree-Sitter side, it's something I've been meaning to look into. We have a lot of Oracle SQL files that make up our ETL pipeline at work, and I would love to be able to visualize the flow of the data. I know there
