I understand your point about being able to write proper bash scripts. On the one hand, I never use Java as my shell, but I am able to write proper Java programs just fine; why should bash be different? On the other hand, I've been us

If you want to make the systems homogeneous, then you need homogeneous teams, too. Maybe some team members prefer fish, others prefer zsh, still others prefer bash. Your suggestion means that everyone has to use the same shell for their c

Interesting. I feel the opposite. Reading through multiple log lines somehow tells me something about the problem (program) that I don’t get when I use the debugger.

I haven’t seen a shell script in ages that was missing the shebang. Is this common in some places? I’ve started to write dash scripts because that seems to be reasonably posix and bash on macOS is ancient.

Thank you for these explanations. I reflected on my experience. My intuitive reaction to APL is that all these special symbols aren’t necessary and APL would be more approachable with some speaking identifiers instead. Then I remembered my

Just a data point: I could guess what you meant by “constant time amortized” but I’ve never heard of “amortized analysis”. I’ve learned the same concepts under “big O notation” or just “complexity”. I suggest that you consider whether it’s

The Peano axioms are much older. We teach them in school. Let's hope that those falsehoods will also be taught in school. (In a different school, of course -- where people learn software development.)

OT: That entry says it's the name of a deity. Are names "words"? And are Italian names English words? This is meant to be an honest question, I just don't know. Intuitively, I was surprised.

> Bang sort requires O(M N) storage, where M is size of the elements. Very good point! Computer-based algorithms need O(log(M) N) storage, I guess.

An output argument is when you pass an argument to a function, the function makes changes, and after returning you examine the argument you passed to see what happened. Example: the caller could pass an empty list, and the method adds items

Are unlockable bootloaders bootloaders that cannot be locked, or bootloaders that can be unlocked? Not a native speaker. Hm. I think it is about bootloaders that can be unlocked.

Given that storing n items in an array or a similar structure requires O(n) space, the space requirement of bang sort seems normal. Perhaps by making use of the Oracle of Delphi, you could do away with the array. Also, the energy requiremen

They could have written "Fish the shell" to disambiguate from "fish the animal" and nobody would have complained. But they left out "the", and now it's redundant? Isn't it funny how the mind works?
