The mandatory vehicle checkup (TÜV) does more than check the lights. They also check whether the car is structurally sound -- any broken beams or similar. I'm happy that they exist.

I wish it wasn't necessary to use a VM to run Docker on a Mac. Shouldn't it be easy to get Jails running on OSX, and wouldn't that be a good basis for Docker? (I'm not sure.)

What's fascinating is that under "Research Through Development of Installed Tools", the author describes agile software development, some twenty years before it got that name.

Hm. Most Germans probably use the German keyboard layout which has a key for the ß character. I guess I'm pretty odd in that I use the "US English International" (or similar) keyboard layout which supports the German charac

I associate Fraktur with Karl May :-) (He died 1912, so he predated the Nazis.)

People like to watch James Bond even though they don't jump off a cliff with a wingsuit. So I love this story of optimizing and pessimizing machine code even though I don't write machine code.

I think it's safe to assume that a drunk checksum would fail to match the message, drunk or sober. So check summing the checksum may not be needed.

I want "remote pbcopy"! I'd like to be able to log in to any remote host (usually Linux in my case), then tack something onto the command line I'm typing to copy it into the pastebuffer. ssh somehost cd /s

Sadly, this doesn't work always. Some apps which implement their own ssh don't support ~/.ssh/config. For example, the OSX Subversion GUI client Cornerstone doesn't support this.

With Subversion, you have a working copy with changes and then you do "svn update", and Subversion merges the upstream changes into your working copy. (But you don't normally call this merge.) With Git, you have a working _r
