The network was infiltrated in December, the attack happened in March. So the last clean backup was from November. This would be a very old backup. Not sure how useful that would have been.

I'm vaguely familiar with fuzzing (sending auto-generated malicious input to an API to see if it fails), but there is a big gap between my level of understanding and the level of this document. How do I fill in the gap?

To turn a piece of clothing inside out is "auf Links ziehen", which is hard to translate. I find "inside out" to be quite the intuitive metaphor. The idea is that clothes have a "right" side (rechts) and a &qu

Based on the pinyin based Chinese input method I've seen, I guess the user will want to switch to US for entering code, right? Otherwise, the IME will offer Chinese characters... What I like about using US Intl (I've modified it

I guess most European languages with Latin letters "with adornments" can be written quite nicely with a keyboard layout similar to US Intl. You can write the characters using digraphs. For example, type <"> and then <

For me, personally, tig is the sweet spot. It shows me the output of "git status", I can select the files I want, and then commit them. There is also lazygit, it's kind of similar, but different. https://github.co

I've used CFengine (long ago) and Ansible (more recently), and the way I remember it, they were similar: Both allow you to express "please ensure that this Debian package is installed" and "please ensure that the file fo

It would be nice if it was possible to write mixed-language Chinese and Japanese here in HN comments. It would also be nice if it was possible to write math here. But neither are possible...

I was talking about that Ctrl+F should match ä (the single character) when the user searches for ä (the letter a plus the combining something mark). And vice versa. There is only one key ä on the keyboard, the user probably doesn't ha

My take on this is that it's difficult to communicate the exact details of “Unicode support”, so perhaps it's alright to say that one supports Unicode, generally speaking, but Unicode is complicated and there are corners that aren

I understand that Han unification in Unicode has resulted in the same character encoding distinct glyphs, depending on the language in use. So there would be a Japanese Kanji that looks similar to, but distinct from, a Chinese character. A

Another thing OP does not mention is normalization: The German character ä can be represented as a single character in Unicode, but it can also be represented as the letter a followed by a combining diacritical mark. Both will be displayed

With DirectX on WSL, you can do new things when Linux is running on Windows (via WSL). But these new things aren't possible when Linux is running another way (e.g. on the bare metal). So people who use it are married to Windows. I thi

I use an IDE for java development because the refactoring is just too useful. But Emacs macros are very useful and I haven’t found something like this in my IDE. I wonder whether it’s possible to set up lsp-mode for my Java project.

I believe the default for Ctrl-1 is to go to the first space. But what I meant is to hold down the spacebar, then hit 1, and to make that be the same as hitting the F1 key. Because with a touchbar, there is often no F1 key, or you have to

That is a very good point. And it reminds me how you can do gradual releases when you only have one installation: you do it on a per-user basis, using feature flags. If it's only the logic behind an existing interface, you can implem
