Execute f 7 times, add all numbers, call that x. Then you do mod(x,7)+1, and you get a random number between 1 and 7. If the original function was unbiased, this one is going to be unbiased too.

Check Ramanujan's story please... he could have made use of this kind of scholarship (not in Africa, but anyway).

Yes, I think the answer to the "too much mails" problem is opening a mailing list or forum. It works for medium to big projects, but for small ones I'm not sure it would be enough.

That already exists! There is a product by NASA that allows you to do that, I don't remember the name (you can see the moon, mars, mercury, etc).

I'm pretty sure that the singularity is not the fact that it's a point, but that the gravity is so high that it wraps in on itself. i.e. that spacetime has a hole in it. I know Wikipedia isn't a good source for physics, but: "While in a n

That's a problem for them I guess... we have empirical evidence of black holes. Maybe what's impossible is singularities? Some physicist to correct me?

I think "Digg's HTML" would actually be wrong. HTML is a language, and the secret isn't hidden at the language but at a markup written in such language. Say the language is called X. Then we'd say: Digg's X markup. Why would it be different

Broadened? Start-ups and hacking are very different categories, and there is very little in the intersection. This site being for start-ups had too much material that wasn't interesting for hackers, and as the main target of the site was ha

It's fun that I was downmodded for explaining exactly why this problem happens. I used to be a game developer, and believe me, that's the true reason behind the problem.

That's right, but the idea isn't new. There are many physics demos that make even shooting to boxes (or even just seeing them fall) interesting. This game doesn't add anything else to such old idea, excepting maybe having been done in Flash

This is because people just show a "game over" banner and don't set a death flag or something like that. Then you see that the game is over, but sometimes you can keep moving the ship (I don't know if this happens in this game) or events th

IMO, a video game that goes to the 1st place on Hacker News' front page has to be clever, not fun. Having this game make a very simple (and typical) use of physics doesn't make it terribly clever.
