It surprisingly works well. We do use a front end to it called VssConnect, but to be honest, I really don’t have any complaints.

We still use VSS for a couple codebases. We’re a small enough team that conflicts are rare, but the occasional Teams message “hey, let me know when you’re done with module.cpp” is not unheard of.

The number of times I encounter issues with Visual Studio not being able to write to the file I just compiled, ugh... We've even got an mt.exe wrapper that adds retries because AV likes to grab hold of newly created binaries right aro

Yeah, it looks like ours are too (Itron Gen5). So I’ve pivoted to using “AI on the edge” with an ESP32 Cam to read my water meter. I already have an Emporia Vue monitoring my electricity usage, so I’m good there.

They’re working on other projects. Whether it is testing a general release for a customer, testing bug fixes, or testing a recently completed customization project.

Is there anyone else out there still doing waterfall and estimating in hours and everything is just going fine, or am I just that lucky? I work on a small professional services team customizing a couple of our products for our customers. A

I agree. Right around the time I figured out the format of the data from my Elster electric meter, they enabled encryption across the mesh network. Luckily the water meters remained in the clear, and our natural gas utility uses Itron, whic

I called in and complained about an awkward romance novel cover ad a few years ago and they disabled ads for me for free.

Whirlpool has worked out well for us. Had one for 10+ years in the last house and 3 years in this one, both without any issues.

Kind of makes me want to build a dynamic web server that spews plausible garbage to poison their training set. Probably a bit like peeing in the ocean though.

It’s not hard at all. In fact, I use an iPhone, and they have an iMessage “service” or whatever it is called where I just text them for account related things. Every year I text them for a discounted renewal on my wife’s car. Last year I ca

I know this wasn’t really your point, but most physicians around me use Epic MyChart, so I can book all that online. I also almost exclusively use email to communicate with our school district, and we’re in a small town.

I have both a Latitude 7370 for personal use and a Precision 3520 for work. Lugging that Precision around is a pain in the butt. It is big and bulky, noisy and hot. That said, as my eyes continue to age, the 13” screen of my Latitude does s

My Latitude 7370 is just about perfect. With gnome power profiles, I can easily switch between power saver, balanced, and performance, suspend/resume works fine. All peripherals work out of the box. It has a crisp 3200x1800 touchscreen

What I want to know…can it run Linux? And can it run Linux better than a M3 MBA? I don’t want Windows. I don’t want MacOS. I want a thin, efficient, fast, light, affordable replacement for my aging Latitude 7370 running Linux.

I’ll have to give this a look! I’ve been looking for a simple way to use Go to write an internal development tool which is basically just a form with some buttons and text fields. I tried Gio, but had a hard time with wrapping my head aroun

I’m happy with the way Mazda has integrated CarPlay. No touch while moving, the navigation wheel moves a highlight around the screen to select buttons/links. I find it much less distracting.

Most of the retailers in my area have turned off the bag scale security. But I live in a pretty small town, so maybe theft is at an acceptable level where they’re willing to make that trade off. They’re also using more and more computer vis

Something along these same lines — I feel like I’m seeing those “Flock” cameras everywhere now. So between Shotspotter and Flock, you’re pretty much always under surveillance.
