The announcement's discussion of 'good founders' led me to view this as supporting individuals, as well as teams. In contrast to YC's stance on only really exceptional solo founders, could this program be more tailored t

This Planet Money episode explains this well, and walks through a day in the life with one of the people who actually walks around and monitors prices. http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2010/10/22/13

On the 'comparison' pages, the Equality Index score is listed as a horizontal bar chart, which makes at-a-glance comparison impossible. If you need to keep it as a bar, please consider making them vertical, so you can easily compa

For those asking about how to get a four day work week - I've negotiated to a 4 day work week once, and do a 20 hour week a second time. Each time I just said it's what I wanted to do and the employer was on board, but each time w

I really like Mailplane. All of the benefits of gmail in the browser (my preferred gmail interface) but wrapped in a native app for things like dock notifications, opening mailto links, etc.

I think HN readers would enjoy 'Valley Uprising', a documentary about the history of Yosemite, particularly around rock climbing with segments about more recent BASE jumping. Dean is a main character, and the film excellently capt

It seems like that's how the park service in Yosemite has been acting for a few years. Jumpers only jump during dusk and dawn when people aren't around, and the Rangers don't particularly go after them.

In terms of Twitter blocking Meerkat - it's the same exact situation. What is different, though, is that Twitter didn't then sue Meerkat for defamation, when Meerkat complained after getting blocked.

I believed they are scaled equally. Each 'step' from the middle indicates an increase or decrease in risk by a factor of 2. If you're at 0.5, you're half as likely to get cancer; 2, twice as likely. 0.1 is 10x less risk,

Wow, why such negativity here? I'd guess it's because it's a rich person saying it, which I get. Do we really need to cite the benefits of working less?

Yeah but you're still charged with something and it's still on your record. It would be more like if you could write the gov't a check to 'pretend this never happened', with nothing on your record, and probably a wr

Truly an epic game. This is an interesting story to me because so many projects go this way - small scope at first, then a platform shift and eventually it takes 4x longer than planned. Especially with a game, this can be a lot of risky eff

My interpretation after reading the whole article is that if two new files are created, the history of this 'hot spot' will be forgotten. If one new file is created and the old one remains, that old one will only remain a hot spot

Nice looking components and library. I wanted to applaud your use of Typer.js[0] in combination with the iPhone 'mockup' in the top section. Usually Typer is just used for fancy replacement of words in a headline, but in this case

On the topic of OSX clients, especially for Gmail, I've been really liking Mailplane after trying most of the options. All the benefits of the gmail.com interface (which I like) while I still get a native app with a badge icon.
