I followed and watched the youtube video links and gleaned a greater understanding than I had before. I dont doubt the site is in Kim's 'enlightened self interest' as Aldous Huxley or Alexis de Tocqueville would say. But I found it useful t

Worthless? Matters of international law are at stake. I've sat and watched USA ring fence "illegal" online gambling, in a massive display of protectionism. I've sat and watched Guantanamo bay. I've sat and watched the Weapons of Mass Destr

Doesn't the problem with imaginary things like gods, beliefs or intellectual property begin when someone tries to claim they are real and you must obey them?

See Xax for another approach. The issue here is that NaCl and Xax are proprietary approaches done inside companies coupled very tightly with existing ISAs and not developed entirely in the open. They are both brittle with their own particul

Good points. A possible approach is to consider the file system the image - consider a UI for managing a VM image and processes within that image. The difference is then essentially deciding what is the center of the system. The older image

It's great to see Chris write this up. It's always refreshing to see someone explore the work of those who have had similar concerns or solved similar problems. Whether they have independently chosen a similar direction or are standing on

Yes but some shops wont know it under that name. Its common nomenclature in the scripting and web space, but less so in other areas. It was called design normalization and factorization when I was introduced to it in the early 80s.

Yes. I'd prefer to change the semantics than introduce new keywords. Of course there are two schools of thought - I favour a small language over backwards compatibility. (And interim tools for migration). Where I do favour extensions is fo

No. This is a fantasy. A trademark does not take ownership of general words or phrases from the people.

This looks excellent a nice restrained effort. Hasn't fallen into the trap that ActionScript3 did with too much ceremony, and its nice to see a syntactic super-setting approach rather than Dart's. Now what I'd like to see in Javascripts ev

Still runs as well? I'd love to know what set up you've got. Since iOS 5 my iPad 1 has been utterly unusable - many multi second lags and endless application quits. Even brand new out of the box the iPad 1 and also the original iPhone were

I like the approaches of both webOS and Firefox Mobile OS. For sure Javascript might not be the language one would choose to start with if one was re envisioning the web today with all the last decades learnings. And perhaps a fresh start

This is an excellent observation. Might I also suggest that having some things closed or out of reach is also a fine way of encouraging people to dig in. Some of the best young minds will search behind doors they are told not to look. Its

Sure the original idea was that along with a recruitment drive for tools such as LLVM and so forth. But I'm tied up launching a startup right now... Definitely want to build a community / set of projects around it. (EDIT: Let's also be clea

For what its worth, I along with some others have reversed engineered the Scalar, Vector and QPU instruction set of the VideoCore processor in the Raspberry Pi. Some documentation is at https://github.com/hermanhermitage/videocoreiv It ha

I think its in the eye of the beholder. The Go site looks fine to me, whilst https://github.com/404 is downright ugly. EDIT: I notice how the OP link is a horrid design too. This has to be a troll.

I'm wondering if you can analyse the problem of Patents from a game theoretic point of view. The problem is this, those that don't Patent or were unable or disincentivized to Patent (different country, or different time period) cannot compe

Terrific stuff. I still think there is a use case for a static C like language (with explicit memory management) for some kernels. The same way that WebGL has HLSL, it would be nice if there was a WebCPU API with C as the 'shader' language.

I've delivered a paid contract that would say otherwise =) (Not OpenGL ES1.1 but a similar narrow API. One frame latency penalty in my case as the calls enter a staging area for analysis one frame before tiling and dispatch). Dont forget t
