Behind the keyboard: yes! In the gym: definitely not. Every body is different, but mine desperately requires carbs to have an effective workout.

I pay 135 bucks a month for access to a co-working space. It’s got amenities such as unlimited coffee, call booth, ping pong table, gaming console, etc. Not to mention an environment of friendly people (mostly contractors) who want to be ju

Absolutely! I did keto for a while: I was literally able to have productive 12+ hour days that way. Having perfectly stable blood sugar (or rather the lack of it) did wonders for my concentration. The downside: I lost too much weight, got t

This is cool! I assume you do need to send your terminal output to some server for this? Or is the model run locally?

Shall I kick the complaining off, then? Technically you could use this to create an unmanaged ransomware solution. “The key to your documents is behind this paywall, bye” Having said that, I do really like this and believe its existence is

Most code isn’t fire and forget though. Bugs occur, requirements change. The human cycles are a perpetual investment. And Python is simply very, very maintainable. I do agree that there is a point where the scale tips. I wonder where that i

Ha! This is fun. It’s not perfect yet, though. This message would’ve been directed at someone who failed to produce something before a deadline they set themselves: _ Are you fucking kidding me? You said it was supposed to take a week! What

You seem to favor human brain cycles over CPU cycles. Conversely, time spent on memory management and pointer arithmetic is time that could’ve been used to add value to the world.

Have been looking into laser surgery myself as well. Have you considered SMILE [1]? It’s the newest treatment: recovery time can be as fast as a few hours (full healing of course takes longer) and it doesn’t leave a “flap”. [1] https:/

I second this, but unless you want people to sign up with a username (not e-mail) you’ll have to do do some tinkering.

I miss Dell Latitude and HP Elitebook in this list. Both are vastly superior to their consumer-focused products. Especially the Latitude’s I’ve had were absolutely indestructible.

The Dutch Salvation Army. They run food banks, have cafés for the homeless to warm themselves and enjoy some free coffee, their volunteers keep the lonely company, and so on. I’ve seen what they do and I love it. I’m not a Christian myself,

Perhaps volunteering will help, for example at your local food bank or church. If you’re actively helping people the worst that could happen is putting a smile on their faces.

Nice! It would be cool for mobile users to have the up-right-down-left buttons centered (in that order), like they’d be on an arcade machine. Now it’s a bit tricky to muscle-remember them.

Wow, this looks really polished. The landing page is stunning! And well done on the Dynamic Island integration! I’m building a tracking/note tool myself at the moment, and I think with these kinds of apps the most important thing is to

Man, harsh notes in this thread. Criticism is okay (and applicable in this case) but I dislike the tone of some people here. Congrats on building this and launching it! What would help me at this stage is some more information. You ask me

1. It depends on the product. For a landing page go with zero javascript since you want things to load blazingly fast. I like static site generators for this such as Jekyll. For simple websites (e.g. small web shops), you might be okay just

While solid advice, working out everyday can lead to overtraining. Happened to me and it’s not fun. Doing some yoga every day: yes. Heavy squats: no, please no.

Make sure that every meeting (if it is necessary) has an agenda, and follow it – strictly. Preferably also send out a pre-read to get everyone up to speed. For standups we fixed this problem with https://spinach.io .

As a dev internal communication should not be a primary goal. Especially in a large company you should have a team representative (e.g. engineering or product manager) that takes on this overhead. And others should be mindful of this. My co

I do not share your frustration, but perhaps your pain points are a sign that you shouldn’t put your trust solely in a PIN. If you can forget it that easily, and if manufacturers seem to favor design over security, is it really a proper for

Looks interesting! I’ve been looking for a simple bar/line chart component that doesn’t add megatons of size to my build. How much would this add – ballpark estimate?

Personally I have great experience with Edifier. Midrange brand with typical “everything in a box”-set ups for desktop use. Very impressive audio (for the price and size). They have a variety of 2.1 options.

Interesting question. I think that if you’re upfront about the fact that it’s still in the works and that you’ll charge later on, you’d be okay. If I was a reader I would appreciate the transparency, and enjoy being part of the journey of m

Can we PLEASE ban these comments? It’s getting very annoying. I like HN because it’s people exchanging ideas. Even if the ideas are wrong, there’s always something you can learn from human interaction. I feel we’re losing that this way.

Unless we get to a point where entire codebases can be maintained and extended with code that adheres to functional requirements and is free of bugs, there’s still some room for humans. Consider highly contextual problems: today I faced an

Honest question: do you believe that you’ll be able to guarantee the same/better uptime, performance, and security compared to the SaaS version? Hosting your own password manager seems like something you really shouldn’t do, just like
