PG, where's the etherpad stream? (There's probably an ironic reality TV show joke I'm missing here.)

I have wondered if I need an OS X backup. I'll check it out, thanks.

Oh no, getting a good user interface/experience for tarsnap is a new problem. Only if tarsnap were simply an better implementation of an existing utility would that not be true, and only then if you were happy with that utility's current

I know I'm judging your private beta product by its public face. But statements like this: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=360561 are also worrisome. UI and promotion aren't easy, nor 'easy'. They are hard and a lot of work. (Boy,

I think by the time the Wufooers moved back to Tampa they knew more about doing a startup than you do. That's partly due to their YC experience and partly because they really know and obsess about design and user experience. (There's a lo

Great topic, but the article is too hazy on how their model works and what data they are feeding it. My fellow HNers, give us more like this. Except better.

The reason elite schools play sports is to build a stronger sense of loyalty to the school among alums, especially alums with money to donate. But I think it's better for kids to separate the school from the sports. Put the kid into a ind

For all three examples trying to show that religion is even more impactful than politics, the mechanism for religious power is politics. I think more orthogonal examples would be better. But I don't think there are good examples to be foun

Apologies for the days of delay - I'm on a reduced HN diet. So, in Clojure you can't use Java objects with the great sequence and hashmap libs: (def h (new java.util.HashMap)) (. h put :a 1) (. h put :b 2) user=> h #=(java.util.HashMap.

Ah, so apparently PG didn't go with the unix integration he mentioned once. Your Java interop looks good, yet the code is a bit more verbose than the equivalent in Java. Also, can Arc lists and hashes be used as Java List and Map collectio

Very cool - how do you do Java interop? Also, Java has the curse of portability so you can't assume a unix, which Arc does, I think. How has that worked out?

Emacs is also the default editor for Clojure. There's an Eclipse plugin coming along but I think it's not ready yet.

I was impressed by a six hundred year old former cod-salting wharfside building in Bergen, Norway. Most of the original wood was intact and accessible - you could touch the old tool marks. The building now houses a mere motorcycle dealers

That is great stuff, but I favor Amundsen. For one thing he beat everyone to the Pole. His clearer thinking meant success and less suffering as a bonus.
