Good point, plus they are well motivated to improve performance and typically are on the cutting edge. Who else does a lot of tech innovation? Since on the server side this relates to cost / page view I'd guess the super-competitive porn i

I had forgotten about them, but yes. Both were cool, but I had a subscription to "Call A.P.P.L.E." magazine - a regional Apple ][ mag. Lots of BASIC programs. (I'm amazed to find out just now that it's been revived as a Mac magazine!) I

You've got to target a different kind of customer than those players. How about if you toss out "safe secure and reliable"? You were apparently inspired by packet switching networks, so why not follow their lead: don't guarantee delivery.

Well, before testing and integrating, sure. Writing it, maybe not. It depends on what you're working on I suppose. Certainly I've had the same experience - not being able to turn on a computer and so thinking about coding instead of doin

If I had a screen in front of me, the temptation would be to do something, to try out the idea... The nice thing about a longish honest post like this is that the writer is likely to tell you what you need to know whether he meant to or n

So ironic and bizarre that they were on their way to commemorate the Katyn massacre. This is like a small-scale Katyn.

Sounds like a pretty typical case of depression. Take it seriously, it's not just "feeling down" or something, it's a serious problem. Luckily it's treatable with meds. However, I'd try some of the other ideas seen here first. Especially

That's not true of all kinds of debt. Student loans, which lots of young med school and MBA grads seem to have in the 100K+ range, cannot be discharged through bankruptcy. This hurts the country and the world. Surely there have been a fe

Dried lentils are really cheap, wonderfully healthful, and much faster to cook than dried beans. Peanut butter is already ready to eat, and pretty cheap. Eggs are cheap protein. You can pour milk right over uncooked, raw rolled oats and e

You can be the hottest startup on the block with 100,000 active early adopters, but I'd trade every one of those users for Normals in all cases. If its a one-for-one trade, that's a bad deal.

I don't like to see this kind of story reported. If Facebook doesn't now buy Loopt it will look like something bad came up in due diligence, making Loopt less attractive to other potential acquirers, at least for a while. Further, Faceboo

It's somewhat the opposite here. In fields like Computer Science there's more money available to pay for your education - it's typical to leave grad school without any debt, I think - than in the Humanities, where as the author pointed o

Assuming by viral we all mean achieving exponential growth without marketing Don't assume that. Viral is a class of mechanisms and is orthogonal to growth rate, not a descriptive term for growth that means "good".
