It seems publishers have figured out that injecting identity/race into every single topic gets views these days. What is the benefit of analyzing increasing pedestrian deaths by race here?

Not sure how many devs code in a single language these days. I go back/forth between Go, Dart, and C++ every day, so using one IDE like VSCode (with the familiar features from extensions to shortcuts to snippets) is a big help.

CockroachDB was founded by ex-Google employees and is partly funded by Google Ventures, so I'd take this report with a pinch of salt. IMO GCP is good for PoC/personal projects due to their liberal free tier quotas, but I don'

May be, but those are few and far between. The full/coordinated effort is now on wiping out as much of the right leaning folks/orgs as possible, taking advantage of the uproar over the Jan 6 event.

What is happening to our country? Bans from social media, app stores, hosting platforms...now financial orgs. Is this what we want, extermination of the side we don't agree with? Punish without a trial or hearing the other side? One of

I doubt this. I'm on Parler and frequently see posts (I presume from left leaning folks) trashing the right side (e.g., Trump). Those posts are allowed with no issues. It is true that most opinions are right leaning (some viciously so)

Don't judge Parler with what you hear from the mainstream media. I'm on Parler and there a lot of intelligent conversations there that give you the other side, which is so hard to get otherwise (which is why I joined). Yes, I'

I used to do all work on Fedora, dual booting to Windows for the Windows apps. WSL was OK when I tried long back, so hadn't bothered. But for the last few months I was forced to try WSL (now WSL2) again due to some Windows work, and ha

Actually, if your goal is to stay up-to-date on specific topics, tools like Discord and Slack are much better IMO because of the way they work to allow two-way communication. Even Reddit is offering a similar setup now. If you do want to co

True, but we (humans) are always aspiring to be better, even if things aren't broken per se. My point was that we don't always know what we can't do, so when do we stop trying? Then there's the fallacy of composition. Ea

Trouble is that we can't always tell what's in our control and what isn't. Who would've thought a thousand years ago that we could fly to the moon? I'm reminded here of the beautiful quote by Bernard Shaw: "The

If you're writing in Java, use standard API like JPA instead of native (that's what we're using with our site). I've tested some sample code on Amazon Beanstalk, and the code (with JPA) WORKED WITHOUT A SINGLE ALTERATION. It's not 100% obvi

The problem is: in a fast-moving startup we rarely have the time/luxury to spend time on optimizing after the fact. IMO your choice will depend on how isolated the optimization task is and how long it will take. E.g., we're building a healt

They should call it "reward," not "donate." These guys produced something valuable, we aren't giving them cash for nothing. I wish they lose the "donate" word in all situations like this (free software, etc.).
