For an interesting take on "Modern Bash" I came across this a few months ago, from the deliciously twisted genius that is Ingy döt Net: https://github.com/ingydotnet/bpan-bash

Indeed, any CDN could have their servers hacked, and that would be a nightmare. But it seems that most of the biggest ones have had a reasonably (some unbelievably) good track record of preventing and protecting against such problems. I

How do you "block" a CDN? Is that a mis-wording? Do you have some means to automatically discover and detect the origin servers and connect directly to them, bypassing the CDN? And, to answer your question, the benefits are substa

I dunno... the tales install script seems to want to take over whatever account it's run as, going so far as to modify ~/.ssh/config . That alone gives me pause... then it requires you have a github account? And it needs mysql, redis and

Add that to https://metacpan.org/module/Acme::Constructor::Pythonic and an improved version of Acme::Dot and you've practically got a whole 'nother language...

For list comprehensions and a different style of generator, look at https://metacpan.org/module/List::Gen And then there are a pile of modules that implement python-style generators, some using https://metacpan.org/module/Coro (co-routi

This is highly amusing to me because my solution was almost exactly identical (and the same number of keystrokes: print(($_%3?"":"Fizz").($_%5?"":"Buzz")or$_,"\n")for 1..100 sadly, though it says they're running perl 5.14, it would

This is really great! Years ago when I was still in college (so probably before 2001) I had this exact same idea, but not the skills to implement it. Later, still wanting a searchable archive of pages I bookmarked, I wrote a Perl script tha

I'm currently looking into redis for similar needs. I'd be using it from perl and wondered how will it would scale... (IIRC (from people I know who have worked there) youporn/pornhub runs on Catalyst, an MVC-based web framework written in p

I don't know about ops but all of engineering is about 600 or so, IIRC. Everything is automated to an incredible degree though, so I wouldn't be surprised if ops is quite lean.

re: Perl Medic... Excellent book. What I learned there has served me very well with Perl, and also helped me with work on some crufty Python as well! Also, yeah... I should take-back the TDD comment, or at least re-word it. I just get a lit

Yet another garbage article on "how to become good at X". Idioms are indeed important, but TDD won't improve your proficiency (except in that you'll learn a testing framework and be writing more code). Neither will attempting to adhere to a

Indeed... Simple, and probably wrong. I won't pretend that Perl's unicode support sucks; Working with Unicode in Perl is far more complicated than it ought to be and rife with bugs and corner-cases. However, working with Unicode properly
