The last sentence of the article: "And because many people—both admirers of McCandless and his detractors—regard “Into the Wild” as a cautionary tale, it’s important to know as much as possible about how McCandless actually may have di

Title should be "77% of users surveyed...". User surveys seem like a really poor metric here. Also, being posted by the article creator, 12 upvotes and only 1 comment seems to suggest gaming the system.

The Malala story is a really terrible example of this for three reasons: 1. Her native language is not English, so she presumably does not speak to herself in English. She is translating what she says to herself to English. She may or may

I wanted to stop reading immediately upon seeing the subtitle start with "Technically incorrect." Then I saw that's the column name? Terrible choice.

No. As many of the other comments have here have said in more words, correlation != causation.

The first words of the EFF article are "The New York Times". This article, as the title suggests, goes more into the "dangers of unchecked surveillance" in a digital age.

"So Do You Wear a Cape" is an excellent history of the founding and success of Magic: the Gathering and written in a way that you don't have to understand the game to grasp everything. I highly recommend checking that out.

I find it suspicious when something is posted by someone at the company and immediately receives a bunch of upvotes, with no commentary. Maybe there is useful discussion to be had about the product, but let the democracy of the HN voting sy

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of books people cite on these lists they haven't actually read. The list serves as a status symbol and there's no way to verify it anyway. Also, U.S. citizens will happily list the ent
