Port scans (what Shodan does) are in a grey area. Actually using the port scan data to connect to a networked service and exfiltrate data is definitely illegal.

Also a good way to go to jail. Please think long and hard before accessing random computers on the internet. The fact that they are unprotected is unfortunate but irrelevant.

Better security features for one. Clang supports SafeStack and Control Flow Integrity. SafeStack is much more performant than gcc's stack protectors, and gcc offers no equivalent of CFI.

Palantir has a core team of engineers building out a very general data analysis framework. Their core product consists of a GUI for manipulating and sharing annotated graphs (i.e. edges and vertices). The actual edges and vertices of the gr

Perhaps this is a nice thought exercise, but please don't use this in production. If you need a reliable distributed lock, use something battle-tested like ZooKeeper.

Perhaps one could even use histograms to estimate selectivity of the query's join predicates to pick a good ordering of joins? This is actually pretty much how a basic relational query optimizer works in practice.

...Except the number of query plans is O(n!), where n is the number of joins. MongoDB's query optimizer actually works like this, which is only tractable because it doesn't support joins.
