A commendable effort and idea. Thanks for posting here. Genetic intellectual property will be an issue for years it seems. Economic pressures will hopefully force openness and innovation. Patent law needs to catch up in biology as much as i

Good point - business issues and quality of life are not mutually exclusive. But for me, I interpreted the statement as "When business issues and quality of life issues are in conflict and you have to choose one over the other, I choose qua

Good article. RMS has an honest take on Cuba. Open source can lead to other freedoms - some good discussion of software freedom. "DT: I've editorialized that U.S. companies should be allowed to compete in Cuba. What's your position on that?

No. My relationship with food has changed a lot in my lifetime, from frozen dinners of steak Salisbury to vegan/raw/organic experimentation. Speaking from opinion, I do think food awareness is rising for some, but falling for most. Very sma

Love this title - although the "APIs" are query only. But a '''programmable government''', run by optimization algorithms? I like this - as long as it's open source. No politicians, just good code and bad code. No lobbyists, just competing,

I was hoping this article was described a startup which runs out of money - whose idea, source code, and service can will live on. Still a fairly good read about startup working hours. Reading it on four hours of sleep, I can relate.

Thanks for the feedback. The question is vague. I'm most interested in shared user-bases. Facebook owns the network of users, and apps feed from this network. I'll try to clarify my question.

Microsoft and Google are hard to ignore - even if there are zillions of EMRs. There's room in the long tail for smaller ideas - but this is probably going to be a formats war. http://www.microsoft.com/industry/healthcare/providers/busin...

I wouldn't write off carbon trading yet. Trading of emissions now may not be enough to do any offsetting (only shift monies around), but as the trading system grows to be accountable and based on harder science, then why not, as the article
