As someone who has sometimes used "food waste" as an excuse to overeat, I find the concept of "metabolic food waste" useful. That is, food that you over eat is still wasted food. If you bought or cooked too much food,

You're assuming civilizations end in abrupt events, whereas it might be just as likely that they decline slowly over generations until one day people are grazing sheep on Wall Street or whatever.

If you care about not being a fool, rather than just not looking like one, remaining silent is not good advice.

Maybe they could let me prove that I'm not the guy who used to live at my address. I could prove that really easily, they just don't care.

I know, but if I get twice as much done, its like living twice as long ;) I know its nonsense, but it makes an intuitive sense in the absence of a better way to deal with existential anxiety.

Got the same thing with Ebay. I created an account. I attempted to sell a Linguistics textbook. I was immediately banned. They wouldn't tell me why. My account will still let me BUY from ebay. But I'm not going to.

I think "technical debt" is a good metaphor, as long as you recall that taking on debt to fund investment can be a good idea sometimes. Debt isn't always bad in the long term.

Being a human sucks. External things don't impact our happiness for long, and yet we seems to be hard-wired to ignore that experience and always believe the next thing will make us happy. I have no wisdom for you, only sympathy. But no

When parents hate each other, every little interaction is an opportunity for point-scoring, criticism, one-upmanship, and toxicity. I know from personal experience (as the child), it is horrible to live in this atmosphere. Obviously the bes
