How can you tie a public key to a real name? What information does a public key leak?

I used to think stretching was stupid. Then I got old. Now I find that stretching reduces soreness the next day after a run. Certainly others have had the same experience?

SmartOS is definitely not intended to be used as a desktop system, but it can work great as a home server if you have some spare hardware. OpenIndiana is another Illumos distro that can be used as a desktop. You get all of the core benefits

Well, this certainly solves the problem of WifiSLAM's software not being able to run on non-rooted iOS devices. It will be interesting to see if Apple makes a public api so that Apps can provide indoor location services.

I didn't know much about perf ( https://perf.wiki.kernel.org ) before watching this talk. I had no idea that perf supported dynamic tracing in the kernel (around minute 40/slide 57). I'm definitely going to play around with it more this wee

You will find that UUIDs are often used as primary keys in distributed systems. By their nature you can generate them independently without worrying about collision and without any coordination overhead (e.g. querying a central authority).

It depends. In good acquisitions there will be retention bonuses for key employees (including engineers) if those employees stay for a certain time period (often 24 months). If the bonus is worth more than the things you lose, it makes sens

Meraki is moving (or just moved) into a bigger campus in San Francisco. I was under the impression that they signed their new lease after they announced the acquisition.

You seem to be confused. scrypt is a key derivation function. This blog is suggesting you use openssl (using cast5-cbc cipher) to encrypt/decrypt text that happens to contain passwords. The two actions (key derivation vs encryption/decrypti

I second this recommendation. Restify is targeted at APIs so it has built in support for things like API versioning, auto content negotiation and observability (via DTrace). This is not to say that express is bad or that you can't build API

Cool. Looks similar to ronin: https://github.com/ronin-ruby/ronin-asm . I'm curious if there are equivalent tools for doing this sort of thing for other cpu families. Specifically, what do people use for MIPS and ARM architectures?

Agreed. The article says: $ grep needle haystack|grep silver This sucks. It would be nice if the argument against this had some sort of substance. In most cases grep is going to be faster that ack. If you are searching large files

Congratulations to the Meraki team. I was hoping to see them make more of a run on the wireless incumbents, but I can understand that 1.2b was too much to pass up (considering Aruba's market cap is only 2.1b).

Yup. ELB is great except it uses EBS. So part of our migration was to move off of ELBs.

Considering how often EC2 outages are EBS related, we've moved all our servers off of EBS to ephemeral drives. I'm surprised there aren't more people advocating this route.

I would love to ditch Eagle PCB for a tool like this. Eagle is awesome, but as a hobbyist I don't use 70% of its features. From a quick look at circuits.io here's what I would want in order to make the switch: 1) Let me import my Eagle comp

I'm a bit surprised that Schneier is advocating for "no award". Even if the SHA-3 candidates are not fundamentally better than SHA-512, we really do need a standardized algorithm that has built in protection from length extension attacks.

WPA-Enterprise networks that use MS-CHAPv2 are generally tunneling it inside of another secure channel (such as TLS with PEAP). In those cases you are not at risk to over the air snooping.
