Take a look at tinywm to get an idea of the basics behind writing your own window manager. I'm using evilwm, and have been for years. However, I've tried about 15 different tiling window managers, and I have yet to find one that suits my ne

I'm not really adding anything of value to this discussion, but I've always loved reading his code reviews. I have an unshaken belief in the genius that is John Carmack.

The trick that I've found works is to use a password that I can remember on sites like Facebook. It's the only site I'm likely to log into on my phone. GMail should be a random password though, but it can be stored on your phone so you don'

Honestly, I lost track a while ago of all the new web development tools. I am so glad I'm no longer writing web applications, or I would spend more time learning about the tools than actually using them.

"With his paper, Ari Dyckovsky has helped show that you can have quantum entanglement with vastly different particles, not just particles that are similar." This was pretty much the summation of his research at least from what I noticed in

I use layered passwords. For simple things I've used the same password for years with only slight variations on it. For things like my email account or servers, I use randomly generated passwords managed through LastPass. Although my person

I've been messing around with the preview in VirtualBox, and have come across multiple [critical] bugs. Internet Explorer frequently just stopped working when tabs were opened. Sometimes programs just didn't start after the initial screen,

I like clang for it's by the books C implementation, but unfortunately some of the software I use doesn't work on GCC > 4.4, so I doubt I'd have much success with clang. If I'm writing software though, I'd make sure it compiled correctl

Thank you for the detailed explanation of it. That's actually kind of fitting for them to do away with major/minor versions. I like the idea that they implement major changes quickly, and I'm currently compiling the latest Firefox.

No it really doesn't matter. It wasn't so much a complaint, and I didn't intend for it to seem that way. I just didn't understand the reasoning behind it. It's not something that I dislike about the Mozilla team. Just something that is unus

Perhaps, I hadn't thought that any significant security issues had been found in recent versions. Are there any I should be concerned about? If not, my reasoning is that I don't want to break what is working perfectly fine for me as is. Aft

Where does BFQ fit into this? I've been using it as my I/O scheduler and I've noticed significant lag when I'm transferring large amounts of data between drives. Any thoughts on this? I've been thinking of switching back, but would love som

I really don't care for Firefox's new versioning scheme. I'm still on Firefox 10 on Gentoo, and I don't feel much of a reason to upgrade. I felt that incrementing that number should be reserved for major changes. I didn't intend for this to

Looks interesting, how does blekko index search results? I prefer how millionshort lets you disable/enable specific sites for search. Although, given how millionshort is designed specifically for removing results, it would be more difficult

I really hope this happens because I've been wanting to switch to a Macbook Air for a while now. Anyone interested in trading a late 2009 (I think, might be 2010) 13" Macbook Pro for a Macbook Air? :)

The easiest way I've found to increase boot speed and application load even under heavy system load is to use the pf kernel patchset. With a properly configured kernel using BFS, BFQ, and LZMA compression, my system is amazingly fast. Even

Yea, I don't have an FBI file. I had to request one for my visa into New Zealand. I was very relieved to hear that. I had to send my fingerprints as well. It was a rather thorough process.

A new model for secure servers would be amazing. I wish that there was something like bittorrent for servers. No centralized server, instead clients grab data from each other. Some form of security to ensure the data is correct. Possible to
