Promscale looks interesting. Keep the architecture of Prometheus while storing the data in TimescaleDB and using SQL as the query language (together with the TimescaleDB-specific extensions to it). Does anyone actually like PromQL?

They made some pragmatic optimizations by dropping part of the data where it mostly doesn't matter. Who's actually affected by this? 0.01% of users?

Plenty of companies run their own servers because cloud is too expensive at their scale. Same goes for metrics. It's a direct result of one-price-fits-all pricing models for software as well as pricing that is not correctly tied to val

Plenty has been written about not using the server/container/pod id as a label because it leads to high cardinality which leads to poor performance (cost aside). Time series databases have been purpose-built for certain workloads

Grafana has been fine with this for many years, as far as I can tell. They take a "big tent" approach to this. Plenty of companies incorporate a hosted Grafana in their product. A few monitoring platforms too: https://H

I don't hide the fact that mine is a single person B2B SaaS. The scrutiny comes no matter what you put on the about-us page. Enterprise customers will schedule a call and dig from there. You'd have to be incompetent not to! I'

You can reduce the portion overall or you can use the 80/20 pareto principle to reduce the worst offenders. The second approach seems like a better plan and easier. The first is a hard habit to maintain, the second is much easier to ma

Grubhub is taking a deliberate action misrepresenting the restaurant and that action is harming the restaurant (in more ways than one). I imagine they can make a successful case but it's going to be a long expensive fight.

You should investigate who in your company decided upon the 30 days and be weary of what they're up to. 30 days is unheard of for an unsubscribe system. Usually it's not mentioned or it's 48 hours. Very very few websites clai

I've been wondering why the UI/UX is broken in so many ways that would be easy to fix while the engineers are busy engineering for the sake of engineering. This project, the time series database, etc. Meanwhile, the Android app ca

> Software engineering is more that knowing the API for product A or B. You're confusing software engineering for computer science. Software engineering on average is indeed knowing the APIs of a few frameworks or products well.

You handle multiple servers by tagging your metrics with the server id or name. No need to create a table per server. Each panel in a dashboard points to a specific data source, so you can have multiple data sources in one dashboard.

Grafana is meant to run as a single instance. For monitoring multiple servers, you need to get the metrics into one data store, from which Grafana will read. That's Prometheus' job. These pieces should not be on the same servers t
