I really don't like this at all. Nesting many levels deep is often a code smell, so seeing an end chain like that is a quick way to find candidates for refactoring.

I have quite a few friends doing .NET for a living, and I can safely say that I make more than them using Ruby at work (at an ad agency, no less). They would definitely not call their jobs a "gravy train."

Size does not matter when defining a monopoly. Monopolies restrict trade. There are many services that are actually equal in price or less than iTunes with similar catalogs. Definitely not a monopoly.

I should have been clearer. Every American has the right to question whether or not a law is constitutional. However, without expertise in constitutional law and elections, it is speculative to make claims that senators were ousted because

That's rather speculative. The Democrats in question lost their seats because of voter grief after an enormous marketing effort against them. It had nothing to do with the Constitutionality of Obamacare, and unless you're a Constitutional e

Totally agreed. This service looks awesome, but the plugin really needs to be ported. Rails 3 was released more than six months ago and we've already ported our apps.

At RubyConf last week, Matz (the creator of Ruby) introduced some of the ideas that are being tossed around for Ruby 2.0. One of these is called "refinements", and looks similar to what's being discussed in this article when it comes to met

In many states, including New York, California, Colorado, and a few others, it is actually a crime for them to add a surcharge to a credit card transaction. For example, in New York, levying a surcharge is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine

I'm 25 and didn't go to school, but I spend most of my time around those who did. I have many, many friends who are unemployed artists or are business types working less than full-time who would kill for a decent full-time position. That sa

There is no evidence to support this assertion. The new auto-upgrade model Mozilla has adopted for FF 4.0 (and that Chrome has had for ages) makes upgrade cycles, for all practical purposes, negligible. Chrome 6.0 was released on September

I don't think you can expect these services to lower pricing any time soon. Why? It's clear now that Chargify and Recurly, who have both tried a very friendly freemium model, vastly underestimated the costs and problems associated with the

It seems most of the commenters here are overestimating the average consumer. Excluding the friends I have in the tech industry, not a single one of my friends or family would be able to tell you the different between the CPU and software o

PayPal is absolutely horrible. Here's why: Two years ago, a friend owed me about $200. To pay me back, he sold a camera he owned on eBay and then promptly sent me the $200. Another friend was in some trouble trying to pay for textbooks, so

It isn't in any stable build of any popular browser yet, and you expect it to be in MobileSafari's stable build that is released as GM today? That's unrealistic.

Honestly, my one wish is for split views. With that, I would be perfectly content to use TM1.5 for the foreseeable future with absolutely no complaints.

If the new rules affect the number of quality apps, consumers will vote with their wallets. I have no problem with developers leaving a platform based on the new language, but Apple (and the developers) work for the consumer and should be d

Quick note: The "publish" method on slide 29 won't work as expected. You need to pass in the current_user object.
