I'm worried that Poettering's new startup is designed to ban unapproved Linux, BSDs, etc. https://linuxiac.com/systemd-creator-lennart-poettering-join... The cynic in me says the Win 11 "you must have a TPM&q

Project 2025 includes a multi-prong plan specifically targeting LGBTQ and generally enforcing "christian values". One of the prongs is requiring ID to go online. Another is to use a combination of media mergers with 'volunta

None of the arm mirrors have recent updates. Maybe the LLM was wrong and manjaro completely broke the gpg chain (again), but it spent a long time following mirror links, checking timestamps and running internet searches, and I spent over an

On a related note: I pulled my pinebook pro out of a drawer this week, and spent an hour or so trying to figure out why the factory os couldn’t pull updates. I guess manjaro just abandoned arm entirely. The options are armbian (probably t

Good to know. I wonder what the difference is. We were doing things like running go build inside the source directory. Maybe it can't handle write races well on Linux/MacOS?

Does syncthing work yet? ~ 5 years ago, I had a development flow that involved a large source tree (1-10K files, including build output) that was syncthing-ed over a residential network connection to some k8s stuff. Desyncs/corruptions

Not the person you are responding to, but sqlite is single threaded (even in multi process, you get one write transaction at a time). So, if you have a network server that does BEGIN TRANSACTION (process 1000 requests) COMMIT (send 1000 ack

I tried testing 4.5 opus and 4.6 opus both with “high” thinking. Same box, same repo. I had them plan a moderate complexity refactoring on a small codebase. Observations: 4.6 had previously failed to the point where I had to wipe context

I wonder how much adding a profiler to development flows would help modern apps. JS is gross, but 16ms (time you get to render a frame at 60 fps) is an eternity on modern systems. It’s tens of millions of single-threaded CPU cycles. Also, y

Does cp actually work on live sqlite files? I wouldn’t expect it to, since cp does not create a crash-consistent snapshot.

It would explain the corruption: https://sqlite.org/wal.html The containers would need to use a path on a shared FS to setup the SHM handle, and, even then, this sounds like the sort of thing you could probably break via ar

Pausing requests then running two sqlites momentarily probably won’t prevent corruption. It might make it less likely and harder to catch in testing. The easiest approach is to kill sqlite, then start the new one. I’d use a unix lockfile

Does anyone have numbers for churn vs. cumulative code? Most of my commits (hand written and AI) have delete counts that are 75-110% the added line count. The point that many developers will probably forget to tell the LLM to run cleanup&#x
