I hadn't seen this before and I was curious what approach Ryujinx and Yuzu (mentioned here) take to emulate the GPU. Both appear to emulate the actual hardware rather than patch the guest to intercept graphics calls in some way. This i

What kind of apps? I used Intercooler (sort of a predecessor to HTMX) for a personal project and it worked well but I didn't get a good feel for what it would be like to build more complicated UI.

In the long run the approach Svelte takes seems very promising so I've kept an eye on it for a while now. I took umbrage at the snooty messaging towards a browser in a tool pitched as a way to "build production-grade websites"

Your critique makes sense, it reminds me of an electric truck startup called Edison that was started by a former truck driver: https://www.edisonmotors.ca Basically the exact opposite approach, they started by bolting together m

There's an approach called "displacement ventilation" that could help. The basic idea is if your contaminants are mostly warmer or more humid than room air then convection will move them to the top of the room where they pool

Apple may have been a factor but I think the bigger issue is FB's growth narrative got weak and their valuation was based on expectations of growth. The new story is that they are no longer attracting young, affluent users that as a co

This simplistic model sounds nice but (and he notes this in the article) doesn't pass the test of explaining the dynamics of weight/gain loss in live humans. Lots of people have pet theories ("just eat meat" or whatever)

Some developers used user mode Linux for driver development, and I think some development has happened on the NetBSD rump kernel more recently. I find the work that goes into building this kind of tooling all pretty impressive.

Interestingly a RAV4 Hybrid with about 2500 lb total cargo including trailer gets around 28-30 mpg. The newer hybrid transaxles (P710 etc) are mechanically surprisingly simple and I could see a future where they become the preferred replace

I looked for a quantitative comparison. If the numbers in [1] are accurate Apple App store gaming revenue was around $11B in 2021. Meanwhile Microsoft was around $15B [2]. That's way closer than I thought, big enough that they could re

It's not so much technical as business focus. There's a big issue with their app store cut on in-app purchases and whether they want to set a precedent on lowering/changing the rules to be compatible with games like Fortnite

Except for brief blips here and there Apple seems to not put any priority on gaming. It's a bit disappointing because they could have a really strong showing if they cared.
