Different purposes. If you're building a user-facing web app Django, if you're building an API-only service then FastAPI. To me the big selling point of Django is it's a batteries-included way to build a web app that works wi

Housing in Toronto and Vancouver is very expensive, while pay is lower relative to the US. On a purely financial basis it would be hard for many people to move, and then of course there are many other factors. I would guess the bigger impac

Is there a trick to making it work well? I tried Goose briefly but it seemed very flaky compared to Open Web UI with hand-configured tool calling.

The "control board" which has all the high voltage stuff is totally separate from the computer. What Jeff wants to is totally reasonable, if a bit annoying because the computer bit is installed inside the door rather than external

The comment I replied to implies that all $200k income families are "well off". I think this is a reasonable counterexample, and in SF tuition assistance for childcare includes families up to a little more than $200k so the city g

It depends on location. In San Francisco a mortgage on a median house might be over $80k/year and child care for a young kid $20k-$30k/year. Then $50k in taxes, assume two kids, that's maybe $180k and we haven't even bou

This doesn't make much sense to me. Unattributed heresay has limited historical value, perhaps zero given that the view of the web most of the weights-available models have is Common Crawl which is itself available for preservation.

For anything without really heavy client-side interactivity then Django is my default recommendation. The currently-trendy tools feel like an order of magnitude productivity penalty if what you're doing can be done within one of the ma

Oh it gets better. Apparently some of the stuff they didn't get dated back to Kazaa. Some of the Skype founders were under indictment and traveling incognito while they raised money for the new company.

Back in 2019 I looked at what Habana was doing and had a conversation with their CTO. My impression was they had competent technical execution and a good understanding of some of the areas where other chip efforts have stumbled (software st

Yes, I think most video on the Internet is HLS and similar approaches which are about as far from the ATM circuit-switching approach as it gets. For those unfamiliar HLS is pretty much breaking the video into chunks to download over plain H

Historically PC OEMs cared about price more than graphics performance so that's what they got. If you look at mobile SoCs or the eDRAM-equipped SKUs Intel made for Apple you see more emphasis on memory & graphics performance simila
