Minus has been doing this for awhile. It's incredibly handy to be able to share something with someone instantly and without a need to create an account. http://minus.com/

I thought the presentation metaphorically enforced the message they were trying to deliver. To me, that's actually useful and not "over-styled" or "all-nonsense" - it's a valid technique to communicate with more than just words and to encou

Been using this in production for about 6 months and it is the Cadillac. Pretty good documentation, too.

I feel like a total idiot right now, checking algebra wikis and shit to make sure I am not insane, but isn't that inequality wrong? Wouldn't the listed formula's value need to be less than the radius SQUARED? Or: w * sqrt(2) / 2 < r?

State machines are excellent, but this comes up every so often on HN and I've come to respect the observation that state machines become very difficult to change. They particularly rock for games, where the universe is unlikely to suddenly

I love font icons and these are great. Thanks for sharing. Two notes: 1) When I first started using font icons, I encountered an issue that might be worth sharing - you need to make sure your web server properly handles the more esoteric fi

I thought this way as well, but professional sports leagues argue that their efforts generate the data, so they own it (i.e. without their venues, players, coaches and additional resources, those numbers wouldn't exist). They will allow you

Thanks for the reply. It just seems counter-intuitive that canvas area should matter so much when the drawing logic is essentially the same. We are creating the same number of objects, just on a larger canvas and with different (X,Y) coordi

I never got my jet pack, but I DID get my handheld supercomputer. I love this. I love the idea of it and the 7 year old in me who had his world rocked by that TI-99/4A is stoked. I just can't be upset at any aspect of this - our computing d

Try Divvy - http://mizage.com/#windivvy It may not qualify as a "tiling window manager" depending on what you think that should include, but it's excellent for arranging windows.

I just set up a cache of sounds to use in place of verbal responses today - mostly Coins, Lasers and Jumps. They just seem to say so many things better than I can. It has already gotten me into trouble. In other words, it's awesome. Thanks.

This nicely draws together several sub-currents of developer thought pertaining to the "am I good at this?" current that all developers have. I found myself bouncing back forth on some of the ideals, waiting to hear how it all turned out fo

Fun little game where when the twist became opaque, I immediately was excited to play more levels. That's a game design win. Thanks for sharing.

Taking actions to alter one's self can easily improve the ability to take actions that affect others. A simple example: lifting weights so you can be a more effective fire fighter. There are many others, including the ingestion of chemicals

The funniest part of the press release for me is the "About Oracle" section: "Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) is the world's most complete, open, and integrated business software and hardware systems company." Put it on every release, it will become

If a sound (like a stream) is playing on your computer, it can be ripped directly from the playback device. I've done it in the past with complete preservation of the sound's fidelity, but I suppose it might not always be possible.

In my experience, the best designers bristle at the notion that they "just get on with it". They consider being learned in design a great badge of honor, as important as their innate sense of style. To them, the worst design transgression i
