99% of males in the U.K. avoided dying in ww2 - 380k military casualties vs a population of 47 million (and presumably 23.5 million male) I’m assuming non military casualties were evenly spread between male and female.

So you’d be far worse off if you had put your savings in gold than in fiat currency based investments Barely keeping up with inflation is not the win you think it is.

The “I just have the arsonist the match, I didn’t tel him to strike it” approach of tech bros has caused untold damage to the world over the last 20 Years.

Where trumps Republican Party have spent the last 10 years not catering from their loudest supporters? Either the majority of Americans want this war, in which case the Dems have to be quiet, or they don’t, in which case the dems should be

Given your government is trying very hard to relive the global demand for the US dollar and thus repatriate the trillions of dollars held outside the US that seems very unlikely.

I see 4,000 petrol cars under £1500 on auto trader. I see 1 (one) electric. Upto £2k it’s 9,000 and 9.

No, I’m comparing the cheapest ICE car and the cheapest Electic car over the lifetime of the car, and the petrol one comes ahead even before the coming electric car tax.

Of course it’s not an investment on its own. They’re a consumable. But without the car it limits your options - my kids can’t do after school clubs unless I can transport them as we live too far from the nearest school and the bus doesn’t c

I paid £1.45 a litre on Friday my average, which I tend to treat as about 14p a mile or 18c a mile. I’m not sure why I’d deliberately burn more fuel regardless of the price. Literally setting fire to cash for nothing. That would be $120 for

Someone is making a fortune, and thus someone is losing a fortune. https://fortune.com/2026/03/24/paul-krugman-treason-oil-futu... And those people are linked to the US President.

Based on the last long trip I did in the U.K. where I averaged 43 miles per US gallon (52mpg) I’m shocked how terrible efficiency is in the US. That’s real world highway driving in a 4 year old petrol car.

Remember a flat fee of 3p/mile tax is coming in a couple of years. That’s going to quadruple your per mile cost.

I bought my car 4 years ago with 12 months MOT. It’s just passed again, with two new tyres and some suspension work. And a new bulb. It’s only needed tyres, wipers, and a new wing mirror in previous years. Not bad for £1200. The killer cost

A large number of people spent much of the early 2010s playing angry birds. Did they regress from being adults in the 00s to children in the 10s and then back to adults when they started doomscrolling instead?

Petrol is just too cheap to justify the cost unless you drive massive amounts. I do 3,000 miles a year, that costs £400 a year The cheapest electric car I can see is £2500. It would take me 6 years to get the money back even if the electric

The problem isn’t running a fibre to a town, there aren’t that many towns in the US which are completely disconnected from the road network. It’s the last mile (or miles) to farm houses.
