What Shell may have done -- namely, claiming jobs creation and downplaying environmental cost -- is something very different than what Greenpeace did here.

I guess the interesting part to me is that, with the advent of news aggregators and social networks, the internet kind of removes the filter. A blatant lie can take off like wildfire and burn a lot of people before anyone can mobilize to p

What's shocking to me is the blatant manipulation of the mob. Maybe this has gone on forever, but seeing it happen in real time on sites like Reddit is tripping me out. While I think my BS filter is more sophisticated than most, on the mo

What makes you think that, if their pricing proves low, they won't simply increase prices? And marginally so? They'd have to more than quadruple prices before DropBox is the better backup solution.

I can't say my knowledge is global, but in the US I'm fairly comfortable saying no law firm of any consequence still uses WordPerfect.

I'm a lawyer, not IT, so my answer may not be all that useful. That said, there are two major hurdles at law firms. First, the management structure is ridiculously flat, and the people running the show are usually the most senior attorney

This post was awesome. Thank you. I've often wondered whether every human uptakes calories from food in the same way. In the same vein, and at the risk of being too graphic, is it true that all human excrement is non-caloric? That is to

Onenote is a really great compromise. The handwriting remains, and it converts to text in the background. It's not perfect, but it doesn't have to be. As a TabletPC user and a lawyer, I've been waiting for this form factor for years. IMH

I think I get it. Using a unique salt, they'd have to completely rebuild their entire rainbow table for each password (given a unique salt for each). Is that right? Even then, it seems like they might want to use a smaller dictionary, bu

Where do you store the individual salts, or the rules for creating the salts? Do you hash those too? It seems like they'd have to be sitting somewhere so that you could salt the input password before hashing to compare with the salted/has

It's an elegant solution. In 1998, as a freshman in college, we kicked a lot of ass on Tribes. By my sophomore year, the hacks had completely ruined the game. Frankly, it inspired one of my teammates to go into CS so that he could "hack

Liberty creates risk. Yes, the terr'ists may get a few of us from time to time. It's not, IMHO, worth giving up our civil liberties to prevent that.

You're close here, but you're missing the big picture. It's not that the constitution assumes we're good people. It's that many of the founders were suspicious of large central governments. The anti-federalists insisted upon a bill of ri
