How does a fasting mimicking diet (FMD, like the one described in the article) work? I had a skim and didn’t see a detailed explanation. What’s your experience like?

Or, like myself, they chose NoSQL because it was much better integrated into their development and production cloud infrastructure than any alternatives.

I think there is a huge difference between the “business” taught at university and the “business” skills you need to launch a new venture. In my experience, formal education tends to be very corporate-operations focused because that’s where

This observation of these events being random but the search/alertness to them occurring as not random is quite insightful, and beats repeating.

This feels a bit defeatist. You could definitely go into software sales, evangelism, or move laterally into the management path without any extra formal retraining.

I just couldn’t get past ecto! It never seemed to “click” for me. Maybe I need to go back and learn it more in-depth, it sounds like it’ll be fantastic once I get the hang of it.

I love Erlang/Elixir and want to use it more, but I just don’t have any good use cases for it! I don’t often make big concurrent back ends - maybe REST APIs, but that didn’t seem easy last time I tried.

“Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom” is a quote from the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard. Would recommend looking at their works!

Because my preferred stack is React and I’m the most productive in it. Insofar that you have reasonable loading times, the fact is 99% of end users don’t care what you use to build software. Use whatever you’re most comfortable with!

It’s easier, for me, to write websites that require JS. Why should I spend time on that 1 lonely user who browses with JavaScript disables when I could focus on maximising value for the other 100,000?

The majority of Mozilla’s revenue currently comes from partnerships with Google. If you want truly independent, Google-free software then a a change in their strategy is definitely required.

Is it more likely that they are “so obviously inept” or that there are underlying reasons for the change? They’re pivoting, or perhaps they are simply not profitable enough to keep them on. We don’t know what’s going on in their strategy ro

This is fair, but I really enjoy using hooks. I personally feel my code is faster to write and easier to understand. It makes it much easier to have composable functions/state, which I love.

In highr-level languages you can make a lot of faulty logic inexpressible in your code, which eliminates a ton of bugs.

I am someone using React, NextJS and Typescript who really wishes they went with Symfony. It'd be so much simpler. I've heard you can combine React with Symfony, which sounds really cool.
