For musicians and devs, it's a good hint that Markov chains are "good enough" for most interesting music applications, ML/AI doesn't typically yield better results. Happy to see this on the front page!

A good thread explaining the next steps: https://twitter.com/why0hy/status/1110514962366189568 TL;DR summary: The directive will have to be implemented in national legislations, a ~2 year long process. There are a

Correct - this proposal is coming from the EPP, the largest party in the EU parliament. Predictably, most of their MEPs will just blindly vote for it along party lines. Language barriers are crucial in terms of their constituency universe (

I'm worried about influencing outcomes in the EU due to language barriers, especially on boring and "unsexy" issues like Internet regulation. It'd be important for the EU to be able to vote for representatives regardless

This debate has been going on in music biz circles for at least 5 years or more[0], with zero results. I've also heard the comical excuse of calculating the proceeds this way as being "too difficult" in terms of data processi

Just want to say that Michael Benson's Space Odyssey[0], the oral history of making the movie, was the best book I've read this year. Kubrick somehow, through a lot of luck, determination, and frankly a hefty dose of delusional th

Nice to see this topic up here! Check out Acid Defender, a super fun 303 web audio game I came across a few days ago: http://cappel-nord.de/webaudio/acid-defender/

I tested it quickly with a draft text and found it useful, but only for changing a few single words. Hemingway[0] is a tool along the same line that checks readability levels, maybe combine the approaches to address things at sentence level

Anybody knows a good, worldwide weather "niceness" rating API with a free tier? The only scoring system I found was the Hugo Poppe method[0], but seems like I'd have to implement it myself. [0] http://www.meteovist

Similar experience. I did the blind tests as well, and surprisingly often chose 320 kbps mp3s that I thought were FLACs because they sounded "crisper" (I mostly listen to electronic club tunes). I did and also witnessed other DJs

This is already solved by HLS - all you'd need is a .m3u8 file in the feed. Industry insistence on DRM issues is what's preventing it from taking off, but "indies" could do it.

Tangentially, this is also a great argument in music business discussions against the finality of Spotify, Youtube and other centralized streaming platforms. People are doing just fine consuming podcast RSS feeds using players when the UX i
