Could you expand upon poor man's solution (mdraid+LUKS+LVM+nilfs2)? I'm mainly interested in NILFS2 part. For the long time I intend to use it. I thought about /home for me and/or my father and lately just for an archive

Ha! That's in line with an idea I'm considering - a modern HTML-only browser. A bit like one of those terminal browsers, but with nice proportional fonts, images and other basic things. Customizable entirely up to likings of a use

What 5g will give webdevelopers will take. I start to observe, that previously I was pretty much covered with HSPA. But now more and more without LTE it's hard. I guess when most technologists are within LTE coverage one is at disadvan

Oh, I didn't know. Nevertheless a Pinebook with Vivante graphics at up to $250 would be pretty nice. If there is a better SoC with as good mainline support, all the better.

I'm not much of a Windows user, but MSIX sounds great. Does it add a simple context menu entry to convert an installer? Bonus points for straight up Install and even more for Run. I see it's open source, so if it's missing it

Most Chromebooks have Android applications now. So it's more like a browser and a tablet on steroids. Many newer ones (even cheap) have Linux support. But of course as you said it's a game of trade offs. My father was using Windo

Pardon if I'm not well informed, that's why I ask. Is the problem similar to string search with multiple patterns? Could Rabin-Karp algorithm be used for searching? It also uses hashing. Or could this algorithm be used instead of

You are right. Although I think that most are just lurking around even when positive. There is not much to be said if you just like the project. But people can always complain. I like the project with some minor reservations, but there is n

A rewrite can also mean a gradual change. A great example of this is the rewrite of 0install in OCaml from Python [0]. With such an approach you change module by module with old code and new code working side by side. It is of course not so

It means that it's time to break down those companies with antitrust laws. Apple, Google and Amazon should be broken to many separate companies.

My Nexus 5x doesn't have option to enable gray-scale, but I tried color correction settings for color blindness. Colors are there, but a bit washed out for Protanomaly. Will see how it goes.

Practically C/C++ means C++ and sporadically C++ first and C second. When you see a job offer for a C/C++ programmer you can safely assume that nobody cares for the literal C part. It all depends on context, in this case I agree w

There should be a bot or a separate feature on HN which would add a FAQ section automatically based on a title, a domain and maybe if we are wild on contents. So when something is hosted on Source Forge this link could be presented: https:

I was always hoping for more adoption of NILFS [0] - a log structured FS with continuous snapshots. In theory it should never lose data and that's a reasoning behind it not having fsck. I've seen a blog post that was debating this

Isn't it how browsers work on general? They would try to download resources as they appear in HTML, but they would not do this over more than reasonable number of concurrent connections.

The Linux desktop never took off because it lacked preinstalls. This could be due to immaturity, but at the time Microsoft was strong-arming OEMs, so it was unlikely to happen either way. Now it's too late.

It's funny that people object to C++ while having no problem with GObject model which is a bit like doing the work of Cfront manually. The worst of both worlds and I am saying this as someone who generally prefers C to C++.
