What have you been smoking? Poland is far from poor. Actually, these days it's quite a stretch to call it a "developing" economy. Yes, majority of young people download infringing content from the web, except: 1) The same happens in many ri

It should be added, these are Members of Parliament of the populist party Ruch Palikota. Clearly, they are trying to appeal to young voters, who took to the streets in protest against ACTA. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3514133

Third night of protests in progress. Some photos and vids from what's happening right now in the city of Poznan: http://www.tvn24.pl/0,1732237,0,1,lublin-i-poznan-kolejny-dz... And a fun nugget: members of parliament displaying Guy Fawkes

The "blackmail" fragment isn't just out of context, it's plain misleading. It suggests that the PM treats street protests as blackmail, when in fact the PM was referring to statements from "hackers" that said they will release official docs

Update: ACTA was the topic of two parliamentary committees on Jan 25th, and on Jan 26th the leader of the main opposition party has called for a referendum on ACTA. (Probably just political grandstanding, but keeps the topic in the headline

Yeah, but who hears Cory Doctorow, when he writes on his blog, which is read only by geeks. The problem is breaking through to the wider public, to the mainstream media. We managed to do that in Poland.

There are no outbreaks in other EU countries, because the media don't write/talk about ACTA. So the societies are completely ignorant about ACTA's existence. In Poland, some mainstream media had the balls to talk about ACTA, which coincided

I never said national ratification is a mere formality. In fact, you can count on a huge debate in Poland ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3502200 ). I was just saying - even if a national parliament rejects ACTA, 90% of ACTA will stil

The title is not exactly misleading. ACTA is first signed by the executive branches (foreign ministers or ambassadors), and this is what happened today in Tokyo for most EU nations. Then ACTA will be ratified by the EU Parliament (i.e. the

As I got up on a late Sunday morning, all major news outlets are talking both about the alleged attacks and about ACTA itself. Sunday talk shows are talking about ACTA. The Govt spokesman starts assuring people that they won't rush anything

Well, so let's be more specific about the alleged attack. 1) At least one target was attacked quite literally. The website of the Polish Parliament was defaced and subsequently taken down by its admins. [This is the supposed deface image:

As I see it, the point of the attack is to get media attention. This way you get public attention. And thus you raise awareness - and the number of participants in incoming protests. So yeah, I'm actually really happy these takedowns took p
