Your understanding is not wrong, but it is not what this article is really about. There are lots of kinds of tomatoes, and there is at least one type that grows in the Mediterranean, that the author describes. If you are not familiar with t

(An Option<T> itself can still be null...) With an Option, you need to .orElse() if you want to access the value it is holding (or map it). With null restricted types you do this check upfront, when you convert a T to a T!, and from t

Deadbeef does exactly this. It is more minimalistic / gets more out of your way, so I love it!

To be fair, Italy is about 7 times the size of Switzerland. Italy has the Alps too, although that doesn't explain the ridiculous prices of using the motorway in the Po valley... the only place that I know of which is more expensive is

Speed limit is 90kmh on most European roads. But that's not the important factor. On the motorway you just turn on cruise control, set it to 120/130kmh, and the car essentially drives itself. There are no crossings, curves are gen

I would argue the main benefit would be that the threadpool that the developer would create anyway would instead be created by the async database driver, which has more intimate knowledge about the server's capabilities. Maybe it knows

Just a side note, async JDBC was a thing way before Loom came about, and it failed miserably. I'm not sure why, but my guess would be is that most enterprise software is not web-scale, so JDBC worked well as it was. Also, all the datab

Hey there! I no longer use my 9343, but I remember I was not able to run Fedora without breaking the sound support for it (Ubuntu had some kernel option set on startup that put the sound card to some legacy mode, instead of the I2C that Win

I don't want my computer to do _anything_ if I set it to sleep, other than keep the memory contents alive for some time. Although these days even Ubuntu with KDE starts up so fast that the only reason for sleep (instead of shutdown) is

No, Microsoft did not ask the users if they wanted this or not (or made this behaviour configurable). Just as they did not ask users if they wanted to see ads in their Start menu...

FWIW I had similar problems with my X1, sleep on lid close was working about 50% of the time (which is probably worse than not working at all, because you genuinely don't know what is going to happen...). As a quick fix I assigned Ctrl

No, it isn't. And anyway, I downloaded a generic text editor which has no idea of what autoformatting settings are applicable to my repos (maybe it differs per repo?), yet is trying to autoformat anyway? For example, it decided to repl

But this is the _default_ setting. If you want autoformat on save, that's perfectly fine. Just do not make it default. I can't think of any other editor that does this.

If I have to change one character, but the autoformatter reformats the whole file instead... that is a problem. My actual change will be lost in the formatting changes. And who says that I want to reformat anyway? EDIT: I usually work on pr

I downloaded ZED for a quick play-around, but was quite shocked to find out that editing and saving a file runs an auto-formatter on it _by default_... Whoever thought that was a great idea obviously has never worked with version control, w

Being used to current industry-standard Java practices, this source code looks like C to me. No streams, no generics, no patterns, but lots of mutable variables and for/while loops. And no tests of course! No build tool! Java was a _ve
