Well black kids were first let into white schools in 1960. That's 50 years ago. You don't think that exclusion shaped cultural views toward education?

certainly, and I didn't intend to minimize it, just to highlight the lack of awareness of the deleterious effects of prostate cancer treatments given the oft cited sense of disfigurement from mastectomies. both are terrible for the patient.

Well that wasn't the point, but sure they can be ignorant just like anyone else. Reading your comment below I actually really appreciate your point on trusting your doctor, but it's ok to still be informed or to be skeptical of their recomm

yea you're right that there's a big difference in the mean age and a more benign prognosis for prostate cancer in general. I just get uppity with all the focus in society on breast cancer with the high rates of lung (3rd most often, 1st mos

It's not just because doctors are ignorant. It's largely in part to a health issue that has become an overwhelmingly political issue that ignorantly preserves the status quo of "more screening = better." For doctors not to abide by such scr

yea it's common to say guilt is feeling bad for _something you did_ while shame is feeling bad for _something you are_. But I actually like the use of shame here because it's a light hearted self-deprecating jab announcing "I'm a bad coder.

I don't disagree with you, but I'm curious how you explain the test performance disparity across races. If you look at the top public high school, TJ, blacks/hispanics compose 4% of the class at 25% of the population while asians make up 60

the numbers are pretty misleading without context. you gotta compare it to class composition (very low for blacks/hispanics) and raw admissions numbers, not just percentages out of who applied. med school really is a holistic admissions pro

Well the non-obvious requirement of patents to be granted in the first place is defined such that experts in the field would not come up with it in response to the problem it solves. This is not the case with most software patents.

While I agree that saying "I'm busy" can come off as "I'm super important," I often use it as fill in for "I want to be alone with my thoughts." Often that helps me feel more joy and mindfulness in my work because my focus isn't as splinter
