This is where Carmack excels, give him a constrained canvas and he blows the technology away. Heres hoping they've sorted out some game design this time around (or they licence the tech to others).

The java programmers I know are moving onto other languages that use the JVM so IMO java the language might be dying but the VM is going strong.

The current batch of flight search startups (ie YC backed Adioso & Hipmunk) are disruptive in a space that has long stagnated. First using them I felt like I had been unchained, the incumbents are so restrictive and clumsy whereas the n

When it comes to debugging, nothing beats a few strategic print statements to inspect variables or a well-placed panic to obtain a stack trace. I respectfully disagree with this statement. Beyond simple issues a debugger is invalu

I know several people who still have to struggle with CVS on a daily basis. Git/Hg are going to take a long time to get entrenched into enterprise.

I doubt the investors are unhappy with an exit, employees and users on the other hand are probably disappointed (though I hope the employees saw something of the exit which probably alleviates disappointment).

In a perfect world with perfect coders we wouldn't need tests, things would just work. So tests are a trade off, insurance against our human fallibility. As with other types of insurance you weigh the probability and costs involved in somet

Fear? The ability to transition parts of one's code base to C/C++/ASM through CPython's excellent library makes using python from day one such an easy decision. It is even easier as there is a library ecosystem that makes the transition eve
