Yeah though not as much as that of the Mars Climate Orbiter team who's mission failed due to using imperial rather than metric units in a navigation program.

I love how with a little experimentation and no prior knowledge of these algorithms I was very quickly able to produce paths that produced sub optimal pathing with each of the algorithms. It really highlights how bad relative to humans our

And as coffeemug points out on that post as you (generally) cannot guarantee the independence of the variables you are changing to influence user behaviour. This makes the multiarmed bandit unsuited to the task the article espouses.

As others have said, it is small, fast and flexible with a very permissive licence so it is the scripting language of choice for embedded and gaming applications.

Evidence for this explanation has been around for a number of years though this appears to be the final nail in the coffin for nay sayers. Some very precise modelling of the pioneer spacecraft and its thermal properties was done a couple of

Huh? 1. Build website 2. Acquire users 3. ... 4. Profit! I don't see where this post fills the #3 at all. The last thing he needs is to build out an unproven set of new features.

My biggest issue with web APIs is the speed at which they change means you often get a lack of maintenance of documentation. The speed of change compounds the effects, the discussions you find on the API usage only months old have lost rele

Deal? Or is this an artifact that Google doesn't index content behind a paywall so WSJ has to display the whole article to the Google spider and anyone who's refer is Google. If WSJ (or anyone else) doesn't want to lose the search engine tr

I believe all the implementation patents have been dismissed by the USPTO bar 1/2 of one which is still undergoing review. What is left is Oracle's claim of language copyright which will hopefully get the ruling it deserves.

I think the low quality of the photos the original few iPhones took had something to do with it as well. The hipster filters hid that low quality and allowed an artistic bent to what was otherwise a poor user experience. I find myself using

Of course compiling to JS as CoffeeScript does is itself the answer to the IE issue. If and when there is a new JS one could conceivably compile the new JS to old JS for IE users. It adds an extra burden on dev teams but IE special cases ar

That certainly isn't the norm here in Australia, second hand books, clothing and even furniture are actually cool in certain circles. I myself own more second hand books than new ones.

I notice that the only use of "bubble" in the OP is when talking about the late 90s. Surely we want to move away from cash in while to goings good mentality the OP is promoting to something more sustainable. Otherwise we're going to see a f

I love the technology but aesthetically the unit itself looks pretty horrible to my eyes. Watches are one of the few accessories men can wear and it always saddens me that these types of wearable electronics are always so ugly.

You could use one of the C json implementations such as json-c. However as has been pointed out you will still be just comparing libraries rather than the languages themselves.

Given Go is a compiled language I am rather surprised at its low speed in this benchmark. I am not familiar enough with the language to take a look at the benchmark code, has anyone else done so? I can't help wondering if the benchmark code

You can use multipart/alternative emails to send HTML and Text in the same email. This means the OP's solution can leave useful debugging in place while providing the user with the HTML shiny they've come to expect.

Exposing C++ objects to QML is blindingly fast and what's more it is well documented front and centre. The documentation is especially important as I am a contractor and I want to leave my client with a maintainable system.

Exactly. I have been writing a QML application the past couple of months. I have written a lot of real time C++ then tied it together with QML. It has given me a flexibility in how the components interact, being able to change functionality

Not discussed in the article but I have read elsewhere that advertisers also used the competitors name as the title of the advertisement. This is I believe the "misleading" part of of the breach of the laws.
