All of our radio signals since it's inception hasn't travelled far enough to matter. Even after short distances, out radio signals would be indistinguishable from noise. If humanity stood on an alpha Centauri planet, our closest

With the advent of microservices, it has exacerbated the situation where many dev shops only build, unit test their own little service and call it a day without verifying the end to end functionality -- the "works in my microservice&qu

This is a symptom of a larger issue in tech where C/E suites are trying really hard to turn engineers into some sort of fungible cogs in the system that can be swapped in and out and in different parts of the system and still have ever

Also forgot the part where India and North/West African regions were incredibly wealthy in the past and were basically strip mined by colonialism. It's been only 50 years or so that they're trying to catch up.

If you're in the ruling class and even remotely intelligent, you'd realize a decently sized middle class is absolutely essential to their own prosperity. Throughout history, when too many people get pushed lower in the social

It's a restaurant. If high flying executives with great careers can commit crimes to make a extra buck, the person flipping your burger isn't going to be much more pragmatic.

I live in Seattle and previously in California. Both states have a high min wage, for waiters included. It hasn't stopped the majority of restaurants to gouge insane % off tips from patrons.

It's weird, regular SMSs do come through, as far as I know. It's hard to tell as I don't get many SMSs, mostly iMessage and Whatsapp. I'm on AT&T, and something about automated messages from those 5-6 digit numbers n

Currently work for a very large household name SaaS, previously on Salesforce. I'm willing to bet good money that SO does not remotely come close to the amount of writes in either of these systems.

Stackoverflow is a much simpler mostly read only, easily cacheable site compared to a workflow heavy SaaS. They're not even remotely comparable.

This is pretty nice. But for the price, very small devs might not bother, and a larger app might as well roll their own. The calculations don't really seem intensive for either client or server.

I rarely ever need to use SO on a daily basis. I've been programming on the .NET ecosystem for a while now and usually if I need anything I just directly go to the docs. I used SO a lot when I was a junior engineer. Most of my issues n

Except there's no rationale to the 5-day work week either. Not too log ago, the proletariat class worked 7 days, then 6 due to religious coercion, then 5 due to unions. The owner class would have no problem asking labor to work 7 days
