Can you share your experience of using Immich? I've played with the demo months back but haven't got around to actually use it myself

No kidding. If I can get same battery life as macOS on my MacBook, trackpad gestures, OS-wide Emacs-style keyboard shortcuts and Microsoft office I'm not going back. Proton has made it possible to run previously Windows-only games.

I kind of feel the same. React and all the new stuff now feels like unnecessary complexity but they definitely got the initial DX right

Probably because it's pretty new. React Native needs to start a JavaScript runtime before it can evaluate its JavaScript code, which is what the application logic is written in, and JS engines are typically not designed to prioritize t

I love my XT2. What do you hack on? Is it shared publicly?

a huge part of it I will say is antithesis to current state of programming. Emacs is literally a live elisp interpreter with everything in global scope. You literally replace parts of the application in runtime.

I think people often underestimate how much the TypeScript team does to make TypeScript fast and efficient. They have some of the best people in the field working on the type checker

There's an answer from TypeScript team for your question :) https://twitter.com/drosenwasser/status/1260723846534979584 Basically, > Let's say TypeScript takes over 20 seconds to type-check a medium-s

I tried to use Emacs for that for a while, but whether it's ansi-term or eshell it always felt a little kludgy. There's always this mental exercise of having to switch between char and line mode. I hate that I could accidentally d

I'm fairly quick with Emacs... But these days VS Code is so good I don't really miss it. Command palette kind of feels like M-x Sometimes I feel like I'm too quick that Emacs is trying to catch up, that's the problem. Em

One reason for me to still pick h.264 is many aging (or budget?) hardware doesn't have hardware decoding for h.265. Also it's just easier on my homelab to use Plex without having to transcode

Interesting... This is actually the first time I heard of reverse SSH. But if my understanding is correct then it should solve the problem theoretically. Using AWS will give you a static IP, but if you ask me that's a little overkill i

This is very normal in banking industry. Our backend systems are running on mainframes so it's normal to have layer(s) of "midrange" to expose nice APIs on top of mainframe programs.
