I feel that the real problem is a lot of people don’t care about collecting requirements. It’s one of my favorite parts of the process. People just want to build the app that they want to build. I’ve talked to engineers who just say “I don’

When I read OP’s list of wants for an API, I don’t read it so literally. I read it as an example of the complexity required to implement something like an API. I agree that it’s also a people problem but I disagree that many of these failed

Not with the same depth. I might ask a friend to drop off a letter and I might verify that they did it, but I don’t have to verify that they didn’t mistake a Taco Bell or a dumpster as the post office. It’s very scary to ask a friend to dro

It’s not like you currently go to a webpage and save all the images onto deep storage for archival… I’m not sure what relevance things being digital has on identifying noise. If the ancestor before you is hoarding anything that comes across

Right now I can ask an (experienced) human to do something for me and they will either just get it done or tell me that they can’t do it. Right now when I ask an LLM… I have to sit there and verify everything. It may have done some helpful

A cinema camera is $50 to $100k (Sony Venice or ARRI ALEXA 35). That cinema camera is much better to use for a film crew and puts out a higher quality. WITHOUT the cost of additional lenses. Then you add in sets, lighting, generators, cast,

That's not amazing code but that's not that bad. In the grand scheme of things, that's not code debt that would ever seriously make my life any harder.

Wi-Fi is battle tested but the network stacks on a lot of these devices are not. Not a lot of these devices seem to understand the complexities of IP addressing (ARP, IP, etc.) very well so I’ve noticed they can lose connection easily. I’m

I’ll tell you why this happens. You might use ChatGPT for a bit and your initial impressions will be great. It does what I ask of it! You might be aware that it makes mistakes sometimes, but when you use it, you don’t notice it because you’

Don’t pay much particular attention to AI but I’m not seeing the knock on him saying “no.” What human in the world could be trusted with AI? Only delusional people could say yes to that question.

Trademarks are categorical so just because Blender is an English word does not make it generic. Two entirely different companies can even have the same trademark in two different areas of business.

Definitely not even close to fully there yet but getting the VoIP providers to do it is an important step. Rolling this out is like when the world first rolled out DKIM/SPF for email. You need to reach a critical mass of adoption befor

Phone calls now produce JSON Web Tokens that identify users with cryptographic signatures. This was codified around 2018 by the IETF, SIP Forum, and ATIS. So the public phone system now supports it, but the problem is that not all providers

Musicians choose to sign under a label because it helps them. It’s like paying for a plumber… it’s so they do the boring work for you. There are hundreds of thousands of record labels. Your uncle could be running a record label in his garag

I’ve also seen many hobbyists do cuts on table saws that seem to encourage danger and then they stand right in the way too. Then they complain that “no one could have predicted this.” The worst one I’ve seen is someone cutting circles on a

I think this is cool but it’s a more of a statistical correlation than an AI-related paper. What I’m saying is that if you were to replace ‘AI’ with “ask humans to draw an image based on these sounds,” you’ll probably get somewhat similar r

This is some major myth. Crack open your insurance policy — it’s not going to say “UL listed appliances only” or anything like that. Insurance also covers mistakes. But you should get a good power supply anyway because the hassle is not wor

US debt has been this high before. You lend someone money based on whether you think they can pay you back. People still buy US debt because the US is good with its promises. It’s the same reason the US dollar is the reserve currency… the U
