File checksums are typically used when the checksum is still on the master site but the file could be in untrusted mirrors. TCP level stuff is useless in those scenarios.

I hate it that my work is dependent up on a web-app that freezes when network connections go haywire. I struggled the last 10 minutes troubleshooting my network connection, force-quitting the app when it freezes. Please please give me a nat

For a company not having any R&D cost, granted monopoly/duopoly via lobbying, yes 12% may be insane.

There are areas where Sonic is dependent on ATT for service. Sure, it is not a great solution, but they (sonic) at least answer calls, have a decent portal, and not trying to upsell you anything or steal your dns queries.

Isn't it possible to make the building codes such that houses must like the google image search for "flood proof houses" - little boxes that stand on legs? Far better than telling someone their land is worthless.

This is not just about "credit". There is a lot more damage caused by the leak of untold amount of information about you. Wait till someone stars social engineering attacks against other sites based on revealed data.

This is far too expensive though. It is much cheaper to influence public with fabricated issues about candidates you don't like. May be 1/100th of your estimate.

The captive networks I have seen do the opposite. HTTPS does not go through until an HTTP link is accessed to generate the 'I agree' page. Probably why neverssl.com exists in the first place.

Right, but then the browser is automatically doing the job for you (saving the cookie and then returning in the next request). That would be so bad! We can't do custom code to acheive the same thing...
