I now look first at 3 star reviews. These are less likely to be biased and more likely to represent a middle ground between the good and bad aspects of the product. It's sad that we had to get there but the trust is gone with 4-5 star

Just as good! I used to listen to a lot of death metal as well as stuff like the Cardiacs and other 80s alt music. This feels like a combo of both.

This is such a great underrated film.

It's interesting how posts about polarising "hardware choices" collect so many comments. This really brings out the passion in people :) I am not a mac user but I appreciate the thin design as it's something that can go

Trackers are indeed a big part of the problem. I have a feeling that sometime in the near future we'll see a rise of publisher-aggregators. Pay once, to access many. (that's a glove thrown there, in case anyone missed it)

They do work, I pay Netflix, Spotify and Prime. But there is a limit. I can't pay every single publisher. Micropayments didn't seem to have taken off, and when I hit paywalls these days I turn away - I don't want a subscripti

You do, and that's fine for you. But I rather have a reasonable amount of ads to support content, than have no content at all. I do use Facebook as a means to communicate with a lot of people and catch up with friends and family. I con

A lack of balance is why we can't have nice things. There has to be a middle ground where publishers make money to keep publishing and consumers of those publishing keep consuming the content without being annoyed to the point of want

I wasn't aware you can use extensions on mobile Chrome... Anyway, I use an app for HN on mobile. Much nicer experience. (Materialistic is the client du jour)

Is a degree absolute requirement an actual "thing"? I don't have a degree, never went to uni. I didn't even finish high school properly. But I've been in very good work coding for over 20 years now. Almost every pos

I think you're right (I am Jewish by some default, but very much non-kosher). The practice itself is what makes the Kosher "Kosher". If the animal was killed in a different way, it's not Kosher. I know that as a carnivor

No, i doubt that is the reason. It's just higher level of global awareness and a touch of hipster that is the likely cause. Israel is still largely a country of meat eaters. And personally, as a former vegetarian/current carnivore

It's not low-gear though. I feel bad after 8 hours. Not refreshed, stiff to a point of pain, hard to focus and so so tired like i haven't slept for days. If I manage 5 hours I wake up refreshed and stay like that most of the day.

If I sleep 8 hours or more, I wake up like someone beat me up and I find I'm tired and exhausted all day. 5-6 hours for me are the sweet spot (leaning towards the 5). I'd love to know the reason because all "scientific"

Very possible. Also possible there was a valid reason at the time, and even though it's no longer valid nobody bothered to look into it. All I'm saying is that "created" things exist/happen for a reason, which is no

From my experience when something like that happens, i.e., HackerNews sends back 10K after an upvote, there is a reason for that. We might not know the reason, but the developer who did that had one and at the time it was probably a good an

Very plausible, although if and when the real reveal happens, will anyone believe it at that point? I suppose some level of scrutiny should be awarded to each one, even if only to debunk them.

It's a neat exercise - figuring how that rotary thing works without prior knowledge. When I think of it in today's context it's a strange interface. Numbers with zeros and nines took forever to dial :)

Maybe "urge" is too harsh of a word. I find the history of technology fascinating and when my boys encountered old tech they were interested by it. We spent some time playing C64 games and it was good fun (in moderation). The rota

The article is bad. Really bad. The point made though is something I took for granted. I know what a darkroom is. My parents had one in the house. My dad had one at his work. Not sure my kids will have any idea what it is though. I have an

They are living in the technical stone age then. Time on keyboard does not equate good productivity. Happiness, balance, freedom - that increases output.
