I love this feature, and have been using it for a while. Off topic, but a similar feature exists in Pinboard ( https://pinboard.in ). You can select some text on the page before clicking bookmark, and that gets set as the description of the

This is intriguing. I wonder how effective it is in obscuring one's identity.

That's weird. It only works when I click on the submitted URL, but not when I search for it myself.

I used hacking in the exact same sense. I applaud their initiative and hacker mentality. But, it still doesn't change my opinion that it's cheating, and as user nthitz said, it's just a case of students being sore losers.

Attaching the MIT brand name to cheating doesn't make it hacking. Most, if not all of the techniques described in the post are pretty well known. Dropbox initiated the Space Race as a gesture of goodwill to students, and it's hard to fathom

I know the game is unfinished, but it needs to be more "winnable" and less frustrating. Even when I work my way up to the size of half-the-screen, I end up colliding with a bigger bubble outside the screen I never knew existed! So, it depen

OT: Circle CI looks really impressive. May I ask if you used a library like Meteor to build the app?

Exactly! I'm a grad student at a US university, and I get these kind of job offers pretty much every week. They just need me to help code their website.

You're right. It very well could be a MITM attack. But I guess you could see the source code for yourself after you've downloaded it right? Anyhow, I agree that using --no-check-certificate is usually a bad idea.

I really hate this fad of posting every single blog post of popular programmers (Redditors would call it karma-whoring). Once upon a time, Marco may felt one way about Textmate 2. Can someone tell me how his change in opinion concern anyone

Sure, but if you're simply downloading a shell script (whose source code you can see) from github (a site you can trust), I don't see the issue.

I'm loving every single song it's selecting for me. Is there a way I can login and save my loved songs (apart from scrobbling) ? So I liked a song, then I clicked scrobble , it redirected to last.fm - fine, but when it returned to mixest, i

Recently, many articles (including this one) on HN have provoked one reaction from me : "Um, yeah. What's so special about this? Maybe if you look harder, you're wrong" I always ask back, "How are you doing?", and have always received a smi

I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of P2P technologies of torrent and magnets, but is "snooping" possible with magnet downloads ? Like in the case of torrents, MPAA often hops on to a tracker, doesn't send/receive any data, but al

Thanks for this. I'm still learning git and didn't know about the squash feature.. Now that I think about it, even if I spend 5 minutes on HN, I manage to learn something new! Cheers.

A small feedback on the demo video on shoplocket.com - I admit it is beautifully produced, but it spends more time on explaining what ShopLocket is not, rather than what it is.. The "what it is not" part could easily come in the copy IMHO.
