AppleTV running Apple Music connected to my Marantz AVR. No ads. No privacy concerns. I get lossless stereo where available and Atmos on selected tracks. It's great.

It's sort of sad how these tools went from "godlike new era of human civilization" to "some commodity tools for marketing teams to sell stuff". I get that they are trying to find some practical used cases for their

People need to realise that all this AB testing is going to lead YouTube developers to one final version: An endless TikTok style scroll of (soon to be AI-generated) recommended videos. No search. No desktop/friendly UX. It’s all going

Let’s not also forget that Apple and Google are currently illegally distributing the TikTok app in their platforms. Despite a law passed by Congress and upheld by the supreme court that this shouldn’t be happening. But I guess the president

I'm sure various scifi authors have covered this topic to death (pun intended). But something about eternal life just feels so empty to me. And without changes to laws around euthanasia or suicide, it means being forced to stay alive f

AppleTV 4K box with the new Enhance Dialogue feature has been working great for me. Raising the center channel never sounded great to me, because there are so many other sounds in the center channel as well. At least now I can raise only th

I believe these piracy groups arent hijacking the HDMI signal. They're cracking the Widevine DRM chain to grab the audio and video data from the stream and repackage it into an mkv file.

The irony here is that despite all these DRM efforts, piracy groups upload 4K HDR (or Dolby Vision) atmos mkv files within hours anyway. Meanwhile watching these shows the legal way on unsupported DRM chain gives you 720p SDR with worse aud

Have you tried Infuse as the playback app on AppleTV? It’s one of the few apps I’m happy to pay the subscription cost for. Well worth it for a well made AP. Not trying to make this sound like an ad. It’s just a legit good app.

Events like this remind me of Apple’s slide at the iPad announcement. It had street signs labeled “technology” and “liberal arts” and they discussed the intersection between the two. It can seem like a bunch of hippie crap but it really emp

You can access those simpler chronological feeds in Facebook under More > Feeds. They still insert sponsored posts in that feed, but you can block them with browser extensions. The annoying part is that if you load the feed url from a bo

The new “Hide Distracting Items” feature in iOS18 Safari has been a godsend for me. Just tap on the offending overlay/prompt and watch it disappear into the digital ether. Even with ad blockers, these sign in prompts are becoming incre

I think Apple’s strategy here is going to pay off. Provide a box with an actual fast processor in it, a simple Home Screen with no ads, and an OS with no tracking. Somehow this is a revolutionary idea in this industry. But slowly I’m seeing

The examples are so horrendous I thought it was satire. I can’t wait for genome, cryptocurrency, and nuclear power startups to “move fast and break things” and screw up so badly and remind us why we had these regulations to begin with.

It's for shareholders. Microsoft and Nvidia have a bigger market cap than Apple now, thanks to the AI investor boom. Apple need to show they can be all about AI, too. But Apple have the institutional culture to maintain privacy.

The AppleTV YouTube app is so bad that I’m convinced nobody responsible for it owns a TV. It even forces its own built in screensavers to run instead of the OS one if the app is left paused. Who approves that?! What Steve Jobs said about Mi
