ZIM desktop wiki (open source). For me, a real replacement for OneNote. Desktop app, no finicky markup skills required. Saves plain text files. Problem solved.

Write your core app in cross-platform C++, decoupling the UI (maybe using MVP or similar approaches), then switch to another platform.

MVP (Model View Presenter) is one approach to decouple the UI from the interaction logic to achieve that goal. Only the view implementation has to be platform specific. The viewmodel is also shared among platforms.

Checkslists force me to really have some kind of plan for achieving a certain goal - how I want to achieve something. Because I have to be able to write down the single steps. Also checklists make it very easy to just get started.. just beg

I really prefer Seamonkey's Mail cleint (it has the same roots as Thunderbird), especially since you can always switch back to an good old desktop-like theme. Has been rock-solid since 15 years.

How many machines did you use ?? Not everyone can afford a cluster - and I do not think a single cassandra node could store 150000 entries per sec. Why didn't you use Scylla, which is 3x to 10x faster than Cassandra?
