As to web dev, different people tend to use very different tools to build something looked exactly the same for end-users. Very Often, it depends heavily on what language you use, java, php, ruby, python...? I love Ruby on Rails.

I actually gave up my MS degree, and saved quit a bit time to learn sth useful. 3 years after that, I want to say, it was a nice decision. I do not need a degree anyway.

I love git, and use it to backup my life. Very interesting to know that you will still be able to checkout what you do today many years later. CVS can do this as well, it is just not so attractive being much slower.
