Ten years ago nobody would belive that AMD would have over double Intel's market cap in 2025. And at least somewhat surprised that nVidia would be about 10x that .

Remember too that from the Nokia board POV selling the phone division to MS was a $1B+ dollar exit.

Bringing it back to the other comments, they should do EN->EN translation on the transcription.

Fun fact, the DVD Forum just shut down so the DVD trademark is all but unenforced now.

BTW the writers also previously wrote WarGames, and you can see a lot of the same fingerprints...

Yup, one would think the Simpsons would have been fully HD remastered by now.

That made me think of Law and Order (since I remember reading that day players want to get on those shows for the residuals), and I saw a relatively early episode of SVU on a rerun that looked freshly shot.

Because children watched them on 13"-25" tube TV's that were designed to make those imperfections look acceptable (for the time), that a modern display blows up to proportions never seen during production even with the best

The license was done in 2016, though. It does not cover any later versions, and even if it did it would be cut off due to export restrictions.

Vibe Coding is the new offshoring - the difference is that basically anyone can do it.

It's also not the only answer, one Chinese company has rights to Zen 1. (which shows just how close AMD was to bankruptcy)

In the 90's there was a rather large McDonalds in San Jose on North 1st street with an automated fry machine... I checked up on it and it was closed - not even replaced with a shoebox.

If done correctly a ~35 year old Laserdisc's glue layers are still fine. This depends on the plant and when the disk was produced, but Pioneers plants were quite good by the late 80's. Most 1980's CD's are still fine, e

Thanks! It was a long time ago(tm) so my memory's dim (maybe even so-dim), but yeah the MM (and console) code were pretty much original. The VFS and filesystem code were cut down from contemporary Linux quite a bit. Never had any har

Wow, this is trippy . I can see how 0-page would really help with the 8088 emulator, but I never imagined running ELKS on a 6502 ;)

Pretty recent (44 days ago) HN discussion on ELKS: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42596983 - it's doing really well and can even run DOOM! (just not on an NES :) ) I can't pick these up for a few reasons

It wasn't marketed as one in the same way the DEC PDP's (Programmed Data Processors) weren't, i.e. "it's not a computer, we swear!"

It was obvious the day it came out that the X25 was one CPU generation too early (dual core "i7") and even moreso now with Windows 11. If it had a T480 motherboard instead it would've held up a lot better. (also, a ThinkPad w

Sounds like a nice core, but intel's gone from "fries itself" broken in Raptor Lake to merely a broken cache/memory archecture in Lunar Lake. None of the integer improvements make it onto the screen, as it were. edit: I

Very awesome work indeed... I haven't looked at ELKS in a long time and seeing everything it can do now is heartwarming. The 8018x/ROM mode sounds like it could make for a fun breadboarding project, not that I'll likely wind

For embedded uses, 1GB is certainly big enough to not need to be 32-bit, so it makes sense IMO to use the same 64-bit binaries/toolchains/BSPs as larger platforms, especially since they're better supported by upstreams now.

It's a hobby, not big and professional like GNU^H^H^HLinux. Seriously, I haven't worked on this in a long time (I'm Chad) and I'm very impressed by the changelog! Wouldn't have ever thought it'd run DOOM. ;)
