Agreed - always use wired when possible, especially if you have gigabit-capable equipment. Note that in most cases wireless systems are far slower than theoretical speed, but 100Mbit wired ethernet is good for 90+ in both directions simulta

Yup, if you're not paying for power or space you can afford to keep those dinosaurs around, if they can do the job. Which they might still be able to do, just nowhere near as well as a Sandy Bridge E platform. Heck, some of the develop

Mercer is a bit... biased. He was pushing a debased Java system that took five lines of code to center text, and couldn't implement Duarte's ideas properly. So webOS becoming, well, webOS was in reaction to that and a rushed effort to com

Open WebOS is under the Apache 2 license, so no take-backs.

In fact, you could unlock the bootloader on any Nexus device, load Cyanogenmod, and not deal with anything Google aside from the core OS, using fdroid to get free software apps.

For consumer routers, the Netgear 3xxx's have been pretty good (aside from bad batches), and I hear good things about ASUS routers, too. IIRC Cisco axed the Linksys people around 2009 after a GPL violation suit caused by Broadcom not provid

I remember what the @home jingle ~2000-2001 should've been: "I don't wanna grow, I wanna buy a crappy web portal..."

Remember that Disney owns Marvel, who made Avengers. SW7-9 might be more of a popcorn movie, but I think they'll steer clear of outright stupidity.

Difference being iPod 1 had a much, much better UX than a Nomad. Anything with less than 200DPI is not going to deliver that in 2012. Even at $300 it would be barely competitive, and at $600 it'll join the Xoom in forgotten tabletland.

Add a keyboard(/trackpad?) case to one of these 7" tablets and you pretty much get the original Asus netbook concept, only faster, cheaper, and more versatile.

More like $75-100 in the US. Search for Allwinner on Amazon, filter to fufilled by Amazon/Prime items, and there are a few offers for 7" tablets and mini PC's. I just got an mini PC that I'm going to play with tonight (assuming it actuall

One of the problems I think is that MS dictated specs too tightly. So basically there are about 10 versions of what's basically the same phone in different packaging, which really doesn't appeal to carriers much.

X on Raspbian is not GPU accelerated. Since the CPU (but not the GPU!) is a bit anemic even by current ARM SoC standards, that's a big deal. Firefox OS is accelerated, running on top of OpenGL ES. :)

This makes the "READ SICP" meme rather ironic ;) I've dabbled in node a bit and have an odd idea that Javascript is much like Python with C syntax and a bit of quirkiness. I've got a ~400 line program that parses a Debian packages file and

I've only dabbled in Python, Ruby and JS, but when I sat down to actually write node.js code, I felt like I was writing (basic) Python with C syntax. Given that I've more-than-dabbled with C... :)
