What's the use case? Analytics on humongous quantities of data? Something besides that?

Well, the tone was unnecessarily rude, and the ban period was excessive, but after complying, they were very helpful.

To be fair, after the ban expired, I started submitting the test cases as instructed and the community was very helpful under these constraints.

The first time that I asked a question on #cpp @Freenode was a unique experience for my younger self. My message contained greetings and the question in the same message. I was banned immediately and the response from the mods was: - do not

I read it on Kindle. It was good enough. The code formatting was normal.

In the same vein, I had a lot of fun reading a game programming book with logic programming, but instead of Prolog it used CLIPS: Adventures in Rule-Based Programming: A CLIPS Tutorial https://a.co/d/7wVOcZp

The problem with mathematics is that learning it is different from merely understanding. To really learn it and have it as a primitive tool in your brain, you have to train a lot, and not everyone is willing to put in the effort.

In the opposite direction, would Android make a decent Linux desktop if it got a little more polish for this use case? What about it's code quality? Is it a mess or is it on par with GNOME + Wayland + whatever?

I remember that many years ago there was a push for the x32 ABI[0] that could, in theory, use less RAM in a 64-bit machine. I also remember that I tried to compile Chromium with this ABI enabled and there was a lot of 64-bit bit ops that pr

Kind of related, but I was wondering if there is some kind of redirect functionality in SSH itself. Something like: - A wants to SSH into B - B tells A that it must connect to C instead - A transparently connects to C directly - B is not a

Here is an awesome DefCon talk about this topic from the perspective of a darknet vendor. It's amazing: https://youtu.be/01oeaBb85Xc

This should also be good news for open weights models, right? Since OpenAI is basically saying "you can get very far with good prompts and some feedback loops".

Is it going strong? I'm evaluating it for a new project. I'm considering it together with Clara[0]. However, it does give a vibe that it's not as mainstream as it was before and that the ecosystem is more sparse than what is

They are probably thinking of training agents to do the back office work of their customers, no? Seems kinda obvious, regardless of the "this is local data only" talk.

That's a very good counter example. Although, I'd imagine, the latest AGPL version will be useful for a long time and any further progress in the code base would also be under AGPL, which would not be under risk of becoming an ope

You are correct, but there is also an interesting phenomenon going on here: old school open source projects last longer. They end up being more reliable in the long term. It's kind of weird that the unprofitable option is the stable on

Old(?) school open source with GPL licenses doesn't seem to suffer from this, on a first glance. Maybe Stallman was right. Would love to hear from someone more knowledgeable on this. I'm not trying to troll.

I've done that kind of movement at least once as a CTO of similar-sized companies. There are risks involved. Over engineering this system would be my biggest concern. Hit me up if you want to talk. Contact info in my profile.

I heard that some e-commerce sites will not block scrappers, but poison the data shown to them (e.g. subtly wrong prices). Does anyone know more about this?

Is it still possible to learn from scratch and make big bucks developing for kdb+ (k/q)? I remember seeing an open position a few years ago which paid like 1MM per year. Astounding.

I don't mean the lack of data flow like a bad thing. I think your idea might be better, since data flow aspects might be difficult to organize in a 2d plane. It gets cluttered fast.
