The symptoms you're describing can all be part of viral processes. Antibiotics will do nothing for these conditions.

Pediatric doc here. True, many are not bacterial but fungal ear infections are quite rare. The majority of otitis media is viral, which is not surprising given the concurrent URI that most kids (and adults) have when they get a painful ear.

Very cool app. Question: I assume that any content created belongs to the creator/user, correct? Apple can't mine the pool of content and use someone's idea for their next ad, right? I looked through the app's license ag

Audiophiles have and will say that regardless, since all of the discussed options are lossy. (I'm not ignoring Apple's lossless codec, just don't think it's relevant for this conversation)

Why don't they just deidentify the data set? This not-new concept would allow the researchers to provide the data without compromising patient confidentiality. As for the argument re: follow-up study, seems that the scientific communit

Having used the VA's system as a physician a few years ago, I must say it's probably my favorite. Epic, Sorian, etc add a lot of worthless gloss with minimal increases in functionality, in my experience (probably doesn't have

Seems to me like this quote from the paper is not making a fair comparison. As far as I know, the main market that Theranos is targeting is outpatient / home testing. Yes, of course central labs in a hospital setting get simple and

Sorry to hear about the problems at makerbot ... This company really got out in front of 3D printing and made people excited about it. That being said, maybe the growth was a little to aggressive. I remember seeing a makerbot store here i

I'm definitely not recommending ignorance, generally speaking. Just pointing out that if you go looking for viral DNA in blood, you'll likely find it in a lot of samples that would otherwise be considered acceptable for transfusio

Agreed. Same with cold virus vs. atypical pneumonia. I've actually been trying to figure out how this could be done for quite a while because it could save a TON of healthcare dollars, sick days, etc.
