Personally I don't check my emails after work/on weekends/on vacation, and I wouldn't want a job where I would have to do it. It's actually one of my own criteria when looking at a job offer. Of course I have no pro

I recommend https://github.com/wix/react-native-navigation for now, the docs is well done and makes it easier to integrate with. The UI part is implemented natively, but you interact with it on the JavaScript side. Air

Coming from a background of WebViews hybrid development (Cordova/Ionic), React Native simply blew my mind. How I see it is you get the UI advantages of doing native development, with the advantages of using React for the front-end just

"Programs must be written for people to read, and only incidentally for machines to execute." This. x1000. I've found that a lot of disagreement about ways to implement a feature can be solved by keeping this in mind.

Sometimes writing a custom rule makes sense, but it should be an exception and not the rule. Otherwise, you risk creating a sub-dialect only your team knows. That becomes a problem both for new hires, which have to take more time to ramp up

For me it's watching videos and reading on the web. Like you said though, there's no need to upgrade too often. My iPad 3 is 5 years old now and it's still working fine for those uses.

Taking a break always helped me when I was in lull. That being said, after 4 years I think your feelings are perfectly normal. If being fully engaged at work is something you need to be happy, then maybe a change is in order. Otherwise, as

I had the same experience at University. We didn't learn how to use a debugger and rather relied on logging data to see the flow of the program. That, plus the fact that our code was a big mess since we were just starting didn't m

It's hard to generalize without having the complete employee data that companies mostly keep private. Less salary could come with more vacations, a pension plan, better insurance coverage, or other perks. Even when job shopping, it can

I read about 10 articles per day, filtering through the top 10 to find the ones that I could be interested in. I really like the comment section, as it's a lot more civilized than other online community, and they usually add another pe

Couldn't agree more. At the beginning of my career, I used to do unpaid overtime because everyone did it, but that stopped after a year when I realized that I didn't have to do it in order to deliver my projects. It may have limit

I started with Angular 1 and like it very much. Like you said, it enabled me to structure the code a certain way that made understanding it easier. I tried Aurelia since and moved on to React, and I have to say that while I still like Angul

We all tend to know our circles, but ignore most of what is outside of it. Myself when I was a C# developer, could tell of many companies using .NET in my city, but couldn't tell you a single company using Java, even though there was a

It may be location-dependent. Here in Canada, I know that dev salary increase a little less than two-fold between the time you get hired after school and whenever you get to 7-10 years of experience. Of course, one needs to change job a few
